Day 32: I Will Not Plant A Flag

It’s been a while since I woke up in the inn. It’s quite refreshing.
Now, I will get some breakfast and get to work!!

The first thing I did when I arrived at the guild was to ask about the girl I had left there yesterday.
As the person who rescued her, I was curious to know what had become of her.
According to the receptionist, her parents had picked her up late at night.

That was good. She was able to go home immediately. As I sighed with relief, the young man handed me a leather bag.
Apparently, the parents had left it here for me to show their gratitude.
Ooh! Helping people was great!! I would gladly accept…

…But then my hand stopped.
It was because I saw the mark that was on the bag. …The mark of an eagle that spread its wings wide. It was the mark of the lord of this town.
…So she was related to nobles then. It’s no wonder her clothes looked expensive.

In the end, I declined. He was very surprised, but I made up some random excuse about not doing it for money.

And so I switched gears and went to accept a quest.

The next promising one was… Ah, I found a different gathering quest!! However, I will have to camp outside… Hmm. But there was nothing else, so I would do it.

I accepted the quest and quickly departed. My destination was a rock cliff that was about half a day’s walk from this town.
The quest was to gather something called light moss that grew there. As the name implied, it was a glowing moss. Apparently, it was used as a catalyst in alchemy.
But as it looked exactly like ordinary moss during the day, you generally had to gather them at night. That is why I had to camp out. Were it not for that, I could go home within the day…

I arrived at the cliffs just as the sun started to descend.
I would prepare to camp outside before the sun set completely. That being said, since I would be gathering most of the time, I just needed a place to nap and eat.
Tonight’s dinner would be hard bread and soup made of dried meat. I was copying Ms. Marga.
The soup was easy. Just put the dried meat and herbs in boiling water, and mix in a little salt. Even I can do that!!

Is what I had thought…but I could barely taste anything. Maybe there wasn’t enough salt? And the meat is still hard and tastes bad.
Hmph. It would have been better to eat it as it was… This is a failure.

Now, there was still some time left before the moss would start glowing, so I should get some sleep.
But I am looking forward to it. They say that when the moss begins to glow against the dark cliffside, it looks like a beautiful starry sky.
There are even people who accept this quest just to see it. Oh, I hope it gets dark soon.
