Day 41: Haste Makes Waste

Today, it’s cool and cloudy.
I had been worried about the weather, as we would be walking, but this should be fine.
I hope that it stays like this until we reach the town.

The maid, now called Ms. Noa, and I talked about all kinds of things while on the road.
First, she had quit her job as a maid.
The reason that she was able to quit so easily was because she had always been treated as more of a guest. Being a maid had been more of a hobby for her, so there was no problem… And because it was her hobby, she continued to wear the maid uniform.

Huh? Then why had she been so teary-eyed and desperate back then? When I pointed this out, she smiled and said that you had to do everything with all of your might, or it is not interesting.
Yes, yes. And she said that when quitting, she had told them all about me, and so I didn’t have to worry on that account.

Also, the mystery of her tool was solved! It was a type of dimension magic that elves were known to be good with.
However, as she was a quarter elf, she could only use one part of it, which meant she could only put tools away in another dimension.
So it was like having an invisible magic bag… That’s not fair!!

Like this, we had a fun time talking as we traveled, and then Ms. Noa suddenly made a suggestion! Let’s take a short cut!
What? No, thank you. If we continue on this road, we’ll arrive safely in Ruffa in three days.
However, she insisted that taking new routes was part of the adventure! And she spoke of this very passionately… Ah, this person is quite troublesome after all.

And so I was pushed by her reckless fervor… Which led to our current state of being lost in the forest…
Ms. Noa? Had we continued, we would have reached the camp site by evening like we planned.
But where are we now? Aren’t we just going around in circles??
…Hey, don’t turn away from me!!

…And so we were forced to camp out in the woods.
Camping out in the woods during this time for no reason was the worst.
Woah! Hey!! Some weird bug is flying towards me!!
…As there was no point in complaining, I quickly pitched the tent.
Ms. Noa was out searching for herbs that would be bug repellants. The mere idea of waking up while covered in bug bites was enough to send a chill down my spine.

Now, I would finish making dinner before she returned.
Well, there was only one thing on the menu. Soup made of dried meat and some hard bread.
Hmm… There is a bug in the pot!? …Really, it was no good coming to the forest during this season.

After some time passed, Ms. Noa returned, and so we ate together.
Ah, this time it seems much better! The meat was still hard, but the taste had improved!!
Even Ms. Noa was eating silently, which must mean it tastes good! I’m so glad!

That was what I thought. But once we finished eating, Ms. Noa declared that from now on, she will cook all the meals…
Huh? What!? No! I don’t want you to! I actually enjoy cooking, you know!?

I protested in earnest, but she confiscated all of the cooking tools and put them away in another dimension.
This is too cruel!! And it’s not fair that she has that magic!!

…One day…one day, I will show you!! I will make you say that my cooking is delicious!!
