Jack of all Trades – 95

It’s so dark. Dark. A darkness without light spreads before my eyes. Does it go on forever? Or does it stop in front of my nose? I don’t know.

But I can sense that something is moving within that darkness. I didn’t notice it at first. But my eyes slowly grew used to the darkness, and then I realized that it was a moving corpse that was only a torso.

“Aghhh!!”

I screamed with horror and thrashed about in an attempt to escape. But I couldn’t move.

“Damn you…you killed meee…”

A low, low voice that seemed to sound from the deepest depths reached my ears.

“I had no choice…It was you who were attacking…!”

“It hurts…it hurts….”

The bandit used its arms to crawl up to my feet.

“Stop. Stop. Don’t come any closer!”

“Oooooooo…..”

The thing that was moaning had now grabbed my foot. And it was crawling upwards.

“Hah…hhh…”

It grabbed my clothes as it climbed up my body, and when it was finished, the thing wrapped its arms around my neck. It’s jaw now lay on my shoulder. The sounds of its breathing brought a sense of dread as it said:

“But you will face the same fate.”

“Aggghhhhhh!!!”

When I realized that I was shouting, I was in the same field of blood that I had been in before passing out. In a panic, I looked at my surroundings until finally understanding the situation.

“Good morning, Asagi.”

“Uh…ah…mor…ning…”

Though I was stuttering, we exchanged the same greeting that we always did after waking up. And then I realized that Daniela was carrying me.

“Sorry…I can walk now.”

“Are you sure? I do not mind carrying you.”

I immediately knew that she was not just talking about me, but about what I was harboring. After all, we were deeply in love and of one heart and one mind…heh. Even making jokes like that did little to raise my spirits.

“Um, are you alright…?”

A voice suddenly called from behind me. I looked behind me to see a young girl looking up at me with concern.

“Who…are you…?”

“I am called Marie Elle. Thank you for helping me.”

Someone was alive then… So there was someone that had survived because I killed the bandits…

Daniela slowly put me down. My legs still shook, and I immediately fell to my knees.

The girl who had survived, Marie Elle, stood in front of me. A small girl. Her dark brown hair was covered in a spray of blood. The way she held her hands in front of her with uncertainty made her look even smaller.

I stretched out a shaking hand and touched her dark brown hair.

It was warm. I could feel the warmth. It reached a heart that had been chilled by blood. When I felt that warmth, tears began to flow.

“This child, Asagi. You saved her.”

“I…”

“Yes. You fought to save others, to save lives. You fought, and you survived because you won. And it is because of that that Marie Elle is here, living.”

“Living.”

I hear that word and then look at the girl in front of me. She must have looked so concerned up until now because she was worried about me. Now she smiled gently.

“It is because of you that I am alive. Please do not blame yourself.”

“Ah…ah…”

It was wretched, but what I couldn’t express after hearing those words, came out as a sound. And when the words finally did come out, I embraced her tightly.

“Thank you…for living…thank you…”

That was all I could do. Repeatedly thank her for being alive.

This gratitude that I felt, took over my whole body, and before I knew it, the shaking in my limbs had subsided. Still, I could not stand. I surrendered myself as Marie Elle’s hand gently held me, and I wept.

  1. Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger, now he’s dead
    Mama, life had just begun
But now I’ve gone and thrown it all away
    Mama, oh oh
Didn’t mean to make you cry
If I’m not back again this time tomorrow
Carry on, carry on, as if nothing really matters

    thank you for the chapter

  2. At the beginning I thought that him having a breakdown because he killed the bandits is a bit too much. But then I imagined him using his great sword cutting them apart, this is not like shooting people where a bullet goes through their bodies. No, he was seeing severed body parts and the smell of blood increases with every swing he made.

Also, kudos for the girl for being strong even after all that happened to her

    Thx for the chapter

    • I will say that this makes a bit more sense then a lot of Novels where the main character kills a human for the first time, either here they freak out, or get over it overly quickly.
In this case, it was forced on him suddenly, and he had no time to mentally prepare, or even make a decision, and he even had to do the act in an overtly brutal and gory fashion due to his weapon. I’d be more worried in this case if he DIDNT have some trauma here, especially considering he was murdered with a knife himself relatively recently.
Not a bad job of handling it, i’ say.

  3. I’m frankly surprised it took him this long to finally get just enough balls to kill, after repeatedly avoiding the subject despite it nearly costing his life the last few times. Then again, this is what he deserves for refusing to face his new reality, where it’s survival of the fittest, not survival of the nicest.

So while others may disagree, I’m glad he was beaten twice mentally; first by the surprise attack after letting his guard down, and then from finally realizing he can’t continue to always play by old world morals. All I’m hoping for is that he mans up like Daniela is hoping he would and fully embrace his new reality.

  4. Thanks for the chapter, well the author handled that situation well, the impact of the girl that survived its what made it clinch.

  5. @BenkYaah I just had to continue xD

Too late, my time has come
    Sends shivers down my spine
    Body’s aching all the time
Goodbye everybody I’ve got to go
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth
Mama, oh oh (anyway the wind blows)
    I don’t want to die
Sometimes wish I’d never been born at all

I see a little silhouetto of a man
Scaramouch, Scaramouch will you do the Fandango
Thunderbolt and lightning very very frightening me
Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, Gallileo, figaro, magnifico

    Somebody else should continue now.

  6. Thanks 4 the chapter!

What I expected from someone who used to live in a peaceful country. He’s going to have a lot of nightmares for a while.

  7. Asagi being a total newb, yet again. Not because he broke down because of killing but because he could have easily avoided it.

So you have a cheat that makes it so you know how to use any weapon right? You don’t want to kill and it freakin clear you’re vastly superior to the cannon fodder bandits.

Why don’t you try not using the most unweildy weapon you have, the closest thing to a buster sword, and use a smaller sword and hit them with the flat of the sword. Or even take a page out of the Ogre Killing Princess’ book and just kick or punch; with that inhuman speed you’re untouchable.

Asagi, your lack of imagination and foresight knows no bounds either. My fan theory is he secretly/unconsciously wants to kill and doesn’t want to admit it to himself.

    • You are forgueting that Asagi was dead tired from all the walking, barely sleep the nigth before given the ambush, and stressed out of his mind with caution because it hitted him again how dangerous that world really is, so he wasn’t in the proper state of mind to look behind the obvious in that situation, thats another of the reasons why he broke down the way he did.

    • I think it also requires experience just to use blunt parts, or your enemy will die in pain or if the attack is so weak it will only give the bandits a chance. hmm … I think Asagi just got carried away from the ‘first blood’ by daniella

    • Wanted to leave a reply obviously. I agree that it was well written and in some Isekai the characters are a bit psychopathic. However, just because you can handle killing another human being doesn’t make a person a psychopath. Even if it’s their first time. Some peoples mental wiring is just different. He’s from a very Peaceful country in the modern world as let’s say some countries in Africa.

  8. This was a fantastic chapter. Everything leading to it, a new weapon, the ambush, the prolonged fight, the stress from detection and the final result when meeting the bandits were all neatly tied together.

I’m guessing he will leave the greatsword aside and only use it when hunting big monsters, although the impact of killing a human would still be huge, having split them in half will probably haunt him for a time now.

  9. Hello,

First, thank you for the translation.

    Second: ht tps :// imgur . com/a/pMqeKjK

…How can someone survive when you kill them?
I highly suggest you edit that into: “because I killed the bandits…”

    Regards,
    Lucky Cross

  10. You see.. one of my uncle is an assassin. He’s working as sniper in govt secret agent in my country. He killed so many criminals and someday he’s broken. After that he never touch his wife and his kids again, but the alcohols. And he’s found dead because organ failures after many years with alcohol.

This chapter is so sad.. I’m crying because it’s remind me of my uncle. I hope God will forgive him.

  11. It’s weird for me tho… a flying lizard shooting breath of magic make more sense than mc killing people? realism is where he is killed by the first goblin since his mind couldn’t comprehend the sudden change. imo, getting drench by blood almost daily from mission should dull his fear of taking life.

    • I live in a farm and killed alot of animals, i even torture a fucking rat and do experiment to them but if i see a video of a person being murder i cant hold myself and puke… kill human is harder than killing a fire breathing lizard or a green monkey you know why? Because we feel connection with them… His a human like me… He have a family like me…. Maybe he can be change… Maybe…. Maybe……

  12. got to say really liked this reaction too often the normal Japanese (insert peaceful nonviolent job here) MC either has no problem at all when it comes to killing or because they killed some random monster animal and had time to stop feeling bad about it they start killing bandits like its no problem.
