Chapter 220 – The Demon King!?

While wary of our surroundings, Iria and I walked straight towards the giant tent.

Eventually, we reached the front, where many monsters were gathered.

They were sitting down… Perhaps they were the kings and chiefs of the various tribes. Grinia the goblin king was there as well. And they were surrounded by attendants.

And there was a platform right near the entrance to the tent. And a throne was on top.

And on the throne, sat a figure in black clothes, who wore a mask. From head to toe, everything was black.

…This was the Demon King?

Before I knew it, the black armor had vanished.

So the test had already begun then.

And so Iria and I headed towards the throne.

And then, the monsters, who had been oblivious a moment ago, suddenly noticed us.

“What? Humans? Here…!?”
“Who allowed them to get in!?”

The monsters raised their voices in surprise.

Just then, Grinia the Goblin opened his mouth.

“It’s them…the people from Fendel!!”

I answered in a clear voice.

“We have come as representatives of the Fendel Alliance!! I would like to negotiate with the Demon King!”

However, the monsters looked at us with suspicion.

“You foul humans think you can negotiate with the Demon King!? You must be mocking us!”
“Kill them!! They killed chief Bish!!”

The orcs were especially filled with hatred.

Predictably, the monsters brandished their weapons, activated their magic, and rushed towards us.

“Wait…”
“Your Majesty…”

The monsters stopped and turned to look towards the throne.

The mask continued to look at us as it spoke.

“Negotiate? You want a truce with us, I suppose?”
“Yes. Though, that is not the only thing we wish to talk about. But first, the Fendel Alliance would like a truce with the Demon King army.”
“Ally with the demihumans…hah… Ahahahaha!!”

The Demon King suddenly burst into laughter.

“Why should we negotiate on equal footing with crossbreed bastards? The only path that remains for you is the one of total submission.”

The proud Demon King I had always imagined…was right here.

However, it was almost too similar to what I had imagined… Was this the real Demon King?

The Demon King then raised one hand.

“Now, slaughter these two, and annihilate the Fendel Alliance. Do it! …Huh!?”

Just as the Demon King raised his hand, Iria was in front of him, with her sword unsheathed.

And the tip of her blade was touching his throat.

“Please do not move…otherwise, your head will fall from your shoulders.”
“Ba-bastard…”

No one could move.

Iria had approached the Demon King in the blink of an eye.

“…!?”

However, Iria seemed to realize something, as she immediately moved her blade away.

“You…!?”

And then she swung at the Demon King.

“Your Majesty!?”

The monsters panicked, but it was not because the Demon King had been killed.

It was because there was nothing but cloth and mask there.

“Th-the Demon King is…”
“Where…”

The monsters became speechless.

So, the person here was not the real Demon King then. That is what this meant.

Just then, the leader of the trolls raised his voice.

“Tsk… This is just the kind of thing that girl would do! But all the better then! First, we’ll destroy these humans, just like we wanted to!!”

And then the other monsters raised their voices in agreement.

And so we were surrounded.
