Cave King – 230

Chapter 230 – There was an even lower floor!?

“Wh-what magic… No, there was movement in the magic energy?”

Remlik said in a quivering voice.

Fule looked at him smugly.

“That wasn’t Lord Heal’s magic. Also, you can detect the movement of energy after all.”
“Uh, um, yes. Probably not as good as you people. But more importantly, no one was able to dig through that stone floor for years, but you broke through it so easily…”

I answered while swinging my pick axe.

“My power works in places like this. You know how humans have powers from their crests?”
“Crests… I do know of them. It is those with powerful crests that rule the human countries. However, I have never seen one like yours before.”
“Indeed, I’ve never heard of anyone who has the same crest as me… Well, in any case, this is my real power. The other magic is just something I gained while digging.”

I said as I continued to dig through the rock wall.

Remlik followed me frantically.

“Already so… Normally, rock like this would not break so easily. Also, where is the rock even going…”
“That is also the power of the crest. It even tells me what kind of rock it is… This one is…”

I checked the ore that was being stored in my Inventory.

“Black iron, magic defense stone…”

The Sheorl undergrounds.
It was the metal used for the training Golems that the Sheorl people had made.

“It is stronger than ordinary iron, and tough against heat. Magic defense stone is strong against magic. Not as much as great silver, but it is still rare.”
“All of that is here…”

I nodded to Remlik.

While some of it was just rock, a lot of it was made of black iron and magic defense stone.
A mithril pick axe might work, but it was no wonder that swords and other things could not penetrate it.
And since there was magic defense stone mixed in as well, magic would also not be effective.

Remlik looked more and more confused.

“Still, why is there such rare ore here?”

It was supposed to be a natural deposit, and yet it seemed to be distributed very evenly.
Perhaps it had been melted over the floor?

However, it seemed like a waste to use such durable material for a floor.

“Well…if they would use such a thing, then below this must be… Ah…”

Just as I thought, there was something hidden beneath the rock.

After digging, there was another hallowed chamber.

A space that was about the size of a house.
It seemed safe enough to go in.

“Let’s go down.”

And so we descended into the open space.

What we found was…

“There’s nothing.”

A wide open area with nothing in sight.

“Perhaps there is something in the corners. Let’s leave the torches here and walk a little.”

I placed the torch down to mark the exit, and then we decided to search the area.

While walking, I occasionally dug the floor a little.

“There’s no more black iron or magic defense stone. It is normal rock… I don’t think we’ll find anything even if we keep digging.”
“Then why make this area?”

As Remlik said, I had no idea why they would have made this space.

Just then, Rienna raised a possibility.

“I’ve seen many different places up until now… And there is something familiar about this one. Perhaps they meant to build a city here.”

That did make sense.

There was an underground city in Sheorl, which had been built by the ancient people of Veluar.

The shaft above did look similar to the one in the library.

Perhaps they had secured this area, but never ended up building anything.

As I thought of such things, Fule raised her voice.

“Oh, look!”

She pointed to a place where numerous boxes and wheelbarrows were gathered.

And so we headed to it.

And I found pick axes and shovels that glimmered in black.

“Are these…!

I broke one of them and put them into storage. This revealed that they were made of black iron and magic defense stone.

“Are they valuable?”

I answered Remlik honestly.

“It’s made of the same ore as the bedrock.”
“The same as this durable rock…”
“If it can be processed, you could make very powerful weapons and armor. Even though it’s not the same as the great silver, it should sell quite well…”

Rienna then pointed in a different direction.

“There is a similar spot over there.”
“And on the other side as well!”

Fule said.

After that, we walked around and discovered other piles of digging tools that were made of black iron and magic defense stone.

They must have been used when digging the chamber above and creating the floor.

Just then…

“Ahh!! Huh!? What!?”

Fule raised her voice.
When I turned to look, I saw a temple-like structure in the distance.

It did seem familiar… And in the far back, there was something like a gate.

“A temple? No, that’s!!”

Remlik shouted.

It was no surprise.
After all, it was a teleportation gate.

However, it wasn’t like Remlik knew about teleportation gates.

He was astonished because it was made of mithril.

And so we approached the gate.

Remlik’s eyes lit up as he looked up at it.

“I didn’t think we would really find the great silver…”
“You could make over a hundred swords with this.”

Fule muttered.

However, she was likely frantic inside.

That the other side was connected to Sheorl.

If it was, perhaps this was a place made so that the Veluar people could escape in an emergency.

Shiel would know.
And if it did connect to Sheorl, then it would be making traveling to and from Vader a lot easier.

Just then, Remlik bowed his head.

“Thank you, Heal. I did not think we would really find something like this.”
“Uh…neither did I.”

Remlik had really wanted the great silver.

If he was going to use it to help the Lang province demihumans, then I didn’t mind if he broke the teleportation gate.

“What will you do, Remlik? We can break it if you want. Will you take it back with you?”

But Remlik shook his head.

“No, I won’t. It’s true that I want the great silver. But I had a feeling that this gate is important. Besides, we do not even have the technology to melt it.”

Remlik said as he touched the pillar of the temple.

“It’s good enough for me, just knowing that there is more of it.”

Rienna looked impressed.

“You are very calm, prince. In spite of the thing you were searching for being right in front of you.”
“If it was me, I would say, ‘Treasure!’ and take all of it with me.”

Said Fule. And Remlik answered.

“Of course, if you want to take it, I will not stop you. However, it was placed all of the way down here. There must be a reason.”

I wanted to say that he was right.

If this gate still worked, then it must be connected to Sheorl.

However, if we revealed that much, Remlik would likely not understand.

And while he might become a good friend to us, it was best to discuss the matter with the others in Sheorl first.

Besides, the gate may be broken. So I would not talk about it now.

More importantly… There were the black iron tools, which were easier to carry.

“What about the black iron?”
“Huh? Well, along with the temple, they were found by you. I was merely a guide. You should take it with you.”
“Even if that was the case, we cannot take all of it. Besides, now that the path is open, others might find it.”
“I see… I would not want the other Vader people to find it. It might be used for more invasions. …In that case, we should cover up the hole. I will not speak of it to anyone. And you people can take it a little by little.”
“Are you sure?”
“As I said, I am just a guide. And I was able to see something amazing. That is enough for me.”

Remlik said.

“Still… If possible, I would like to be your guide through Vader and Lange again. I don’t know of any other places that would have the great silver, but I have a feeling that you would be able to find it.”
“And you want us to give it to you, if we do?”
“Yes. I am sure you will need some to fight against the forces of darkness. However, I want you to share some with us as well.”
“Of course.”
“Thank you. Now, let’s return once.”

Just then, Fule’s face became a little pale.

“Now that you mention it, we have to go back up through that hole.”
“Don’t worry. I will make a wind that will allow us to return at once.”
“Ah, that’s right. …But if you can do that, you should have done it when we went up to the entrance of the ore deposit as well.”
“So-sorry. But it’s just that…”
“What?”
“No…nevermind. Let’s go.”

And like that, we gathered some of the black iron tools, and then filled up the hole before leaving.

And then we returned to Shia’s village in order to check on Mappa and the others.
