Chapter 21 – Keita I
Inside of the dim hut, Fi hid under his cape and stared at the screen of his smartphone.
The hut had been originally used for storage, and no one came to it after the war began.
No matter how many times things were reset.
“…It really is a stupid. It’s cheating.”
Keita nodded silently at the bitter words. The images the Dragon God sent them was of the monsters being trampled over in a one-sided fight.
“With this save and resetting, they’re basically invincible! That ability and the eyes that see everything. The power to easily make Heroes… The difference is too big.”
‘That is how the celestial world is now. Those with power win the games, and the weak can do nothing. Of course, they still do not object to the games…as they dream of tasting the sweetness of victory one day.’
Canila said with a pained and exasperated voice.
The games of the gods had been held many times now. However, the Seer was the first one to use a power like this.
“He really intends to dominate this game.”
‘And pay quite a price in the process. If there is another game after this, such a divine rule will surely not be allowed.’
Once seen, the other gods would object furiously. It would be against the rules.
“He’s getting carried away… But just you watch! As long as we defeat him before a reset, then we will win.”
He larged and bared his teeth. Keita lightly put a hand on his shoulder.
“Don’t get too excited. We don’t want them to find us.”
“Keita…are you, scared?”
The fingers that touched him were shaking.
In the darkness, the eyes did look like they were filled with fear and nerves.
‘Keita.’
And then the goddess’s voice echoed gently.
‘I am so happy to have been able to travel with you this long. Thank you for helping a worthless goddess like me.’
“Really. Saying such a thing when our job is only just about to begin.”
The boy smiled and then picked up his staff from the ground as he stood up. Just then, Guto glared at the door and Fi detected powerful magic through his horns.
“…Damn it! Keita!”
‘Keita! Fi!’
He rushed into Keita’s chest and activated the break arts with all of his might.
A split second later, the hut exploded into a thousand pieces.
—
When his vision cleared, the Hero’s own special unit was waiting for him.
‘I thought you had just run off like a coward. But you were hiding here all along? Former village Hero.”
Their leader, Poro, said with venom as he unsheathed his sword. Next to him, a stocky magician raised his staff. And three other warriors surrounded him from a distance.
“So you became invisible and hid in order to ambush our Hero. You really have fallen quite low, eh?”
“Shut up! You’re the one using a reset skill! How many ridiculous divine rules are you going to rely on!”
The young dragon spat. But Poro just shrugged his shoulders.
“There is no use in saying anything. The Dragon God already told us. Aside from the Hero, the soldiers know nothing. They are just being used like pawns in a game.”
The Dragon God had told him to say those words if he got the chance. And the words cause a faint frown to appear on Poro’s face.
“…Don’t act like you know everything. You’re the one who is being used.”
“Wh-what’s this now? A grown adult who is upset after hearing the truth! What an idiot! Idiot!”
“He-hey, Fi!”
Poro was reacting to the young dragon’s provocations to an amusing degree. There was deadly rage in the air, and Keita’s five senses were screaming a warning.
“I was told to forgive you if you surrendered. But I changed my mind. I’m going to kill you.”
Suddenly, Poro was right in front of him.
Before he could even react, the blade came raining down.
“Ah…”
His body would not move.
He could do nothing.
It was as if awareness and emotion had been left behind. Fear. Resistance against his fate. Even his life did not flash before his eyes.
There was just one thing that his soul understood.
“So this is how easy it is. To die.”
