Seisan Mahoushi – 234

Chapter 234 – We started the construction!

It was the morning of the second day since we started making the Summoning Stone materials.

“…So, that’s all of it then.”

I said as I looked up at the mountain of black building materials.

The Summoning Stones had been processed into square blocks. Now we just had to stack them on top of each other.

“When it comes to something on this scale, I can’t just put it together inside of magic workshop.”

Well, perhaps I could do it. But it was possible that it would crumble as soon as I took it out.

I thought of using some material to stick the stone blocks together. However, that might affect the gate’s ability. While I would use mortar and other rock materials to reinforce the outside, the hole that was the entrance could not have anything that would interfere with it.

Still, the blocks had indentations and protrusions to ensure they fit together properly. And we had already tested it with regular stones, so there should be no problem.

“I guess we’ll do it one by one then.”

I said, and then the Golems and slimes stepped forward as if to say that I should leave it to them.

And then Mette said,

“We Kijins will help as well!”
“Thank you. As will I, but… Now that I think about it, the foundation…”

I said, and then Ecleshia nodded.

“There is no problem. We Ents and elves dug it properly.”
“Thank you… It is perfect.”

There was a deep vertical hole at the bottom.

And Ymir and the dwarves had used lime to draw white lines. They showed where the blocks should be stacked.

“Well, it’s time to start building then!”

I said, and everyone raised their voices in answer.

The Golems and slimes immediately started to carry the rock materials. As they were already in charge of the quarry, they were used to this kind of work.

The dwarves watched to make sure that they were following the plans. And if something was not perfectly placed, they would go and make adjustments.

At this rate, it would be completed by the day after tomorrow…no, tomorrow.

As for the areas surrounding Fendel and the mountains, there was no change in particular. The alliance was prepared, so that we could at a moment’s notice, but it seemed like there was no need to worry.

…No, it was still too early to be sure.

Just then, I noticed that Iria was looking to the west with a somewhat anxious expression.

“Iria. Did something happen?”
“No… However, since last night, I’ve been smelling something strange.”
“A strange smell?”
“It is similar to the smell from the Toria dungeon.”
“The smell of dead and ashes then. Could it…Undead?”

Melk, whose nose was twitching next to me, said,

“…There is also a stranger scent. Never smelled it before… Almost burnt. It is flowing from the west.”
“…The west?”

Demon King Sophis had gone west in order to speak with Kyuby on an ancient battlefield.

Iria and I looked at each other.

“Perhaps something has happened there…”
“But this is Sophis…”

Even if Kyuby had rebelled against Sophis, he would not be able to win.

But surely Kyuby understood that as well. So if he did challenge Sophis, he would only do it if he knew he had some kind of advantage.

Now that I thought about it, Sophis had seemed a little anxious yesterday.

Perhaps she thought that it would not go well.

However, we could not afford to lose Sophis now. She was a Demon King who had agreed to cooperate with Fendel.

It would all be for nothing if she was replaced.

But more than that, if Kyuby defeats the Demon King, he will think of destroying Fendel and the people around it, as well as the Demon King army.

“…Iria. Let’s leave the gate to the others, and go and see what is happening.”
“Yes, let us do that.”

And so Iria, Mette, Melka, Asuha and I headed to the west together.
