Paintbrush Summoner – 50

Chapter 50 – Dungeon Crawling Helper

The Muzeria road. He came to just as he was taking a step forward.

In terms of time, it must have been less than a second.

He turned around swiftly, but the hooded man was nowhere in sight. He looked for some time, but was still unable to find him.

(Was he…that god?)

A single scarab crawled away from his feet.

He headed to the Hammer Inn while walking through the crowded streets, illuminated by orange lights.

His feet started to move faster, and just as he moved out of the crowds, he dashed.

Ralph, Totto and Stan were waiting in front of the inn. Menew waved at them.

(Is this…real?)

His heart beat quickly.

Fear caused him to pause a short distance away from them. However, his friends walked up to him anyway.

“Welcome back, Mr. Menew.”

“Why are you sweating so much? Are you not feeling well?”

“Piro?”

Stan flew from Totto’s shoulder to Menew’s.

His weight and the warmth of the feathers caused him to choke up a little.

“…I’m alive.”

Menew was in this world, with his feet firmly planted on the ground.

“…Are you sure you are alright?”

“I-I can make you some medicine!”

Ralph and Totto were worried about him. Menew wiped his eyes and shook his head.

He could not tell anyone that he was from another world.

And so there was no explanation he could offer them.

Still, he was grateful for this warmth. And was relieved from the bottom of his heart.

“Alright, father is going to splurge today!”

Menew said with a laugh, which earned him a lukewarm look

“Who is this father?”

“When have you not spent money like that?”

“Never.”

“We always eat until we’re full.”

Ralph and Totto said with exasperation. But even this reminded Menew that he was back, and so he was happy.

And so Menew stood between them, with his hands on their shoulders, and they started to walk.

“It just means that I’m in that kind of mood!”

Ralph brushed away Menew’s hand, but did not move away.

Totto just laughed and looked up at Menew.

And so as always, they ate as much as they could, and then returned to the inn and slept.

As for the fact that Menew cried again when he met and spoke to the innkeeper, they decided to not speak about it.

And on the following morning, they returned to their days of taking on quests.

While occasionally camping out at night, Menew became absorbed in the hunting quests. He felt that if he did not keep busy, he might get pulled back to his past life again.

He was also afraid of walking in the city when alone, and did his best to not bump into anyone. He knew that none of that was necessary, but he could not help it.

With Ralph and Menew’s support in defeating monsters, Totto’s level rose as well, until his physical stats were double digits. He also learned to use explosives for attacks, and no longer had to be protected as much as before.

Also, he often visited the alchemist workshops and the library, and was studying as much as possible.

Like this, they rose to C-Rank at a record speed.

“Good work, all of you. Here are your new plates. …Well, I suppose you will be wanting to take on the long awaited dungeon?”

“Take on? We can do that?”

“Yes! Obviously, it will be time-consuming. The time it takes from accepting the quest, to reaching your goal. You need special permission to do it. Of course, you must also be above C-Rank, as we don’t want people to go down there and die.”

The three looked at each other and nodded.

“We will go then!”

“So, there is one other rule… You must have four people in your party. So come back when you have another member.”

And like that, they were driven away from the counter.

“No-not enough members…”

As Menew fell to the ground in despair, Totto knelt and comforted him.

As the guild had a pub, where people often fought, they did not really stick out.

“Damn it! I thought we would be able to go to the dungeon!”

Menew shouted, but this too was erased from the arguments and laughter.

However, someone was listening. A woman who had been drinking in the corner got up and approached them.

“Hey, young man. Maybe I could help you?”

Menew raised his head.

He saw a curvaceous woman with brown skin and leather pants. She also wore a riding jacket that was open at the front. A short sword hung at her belt, and she had dark blue hair and golden eyes. The eyes were sharp and almost cat-like. Regardless, she was quite beautiful.

When standing, she came up to Menew’s shoulder. And she smiled with such confidence.

She then brought up her status and said,

“I am Sety. So you want to go to the dungeon, eh? So do I. But I can’t really go there alone.”

She then showed her Adventurers plate. Rank-B. Level 74. Thief. And she was twenty-two years old. At the very least, she could protect herself.

“Ah, uh. Hello. I’m Menew. …Do you really mean it?”

He asked hesitantly, and Sety laughed as if she thought this was terribly funny.

“What? Is this your first time teaming up with someone? This happens all of the time. But if you have doubts about my reputation, go ask about me at the counter.”

Menew glanced towards the counter, and the receptionist gave him a thumbs up as if to confirm this.

They had records of her completion rate, after all.

Menew smiled and offered his right hand.

“Thank you. We’ll be glad to have you, Sety.”

Sety shook it firmly and laughed.

“Bah! Let’s not be so formal about it! In any case, you can call me Sety! Now, I suppose you two don’t have any objections?”

She asked Ralph and Totto. As they agreed, they then made their way back to the counter and got the permit.

They would depart in three days.

And so agreed to meet up in front of the guild later, and then separated from Sety.
