Cave King – 234

Chapter 234 – We decided to meet him!

After the governor general and Prince Ruda’s speach.
We returned once to Shia’s village.

Fule scowled with folded arms.

“Things are bad… And to think that it is Arder who is the trigger for war.”
“We released him in order to avoid conflict between Vader and Sheorl. And I still don’t think it was a mistake to keep him alive.”

Rienna said as she turned to me.

“Aside from telling the Sylphium people about the attack…what should we do?”
“If we do not do anything, they will be defeated… While we had to be careful when it came to military aid, now that we are in an alliance, ignoring them during an invasion is not an option.”

It was a one-sided attack from Vader. And if they succeeded, they might start attacking other countries as well.

Rienna and Fule looked at each other and nodded.

“We agree as well. But I believe there is something else to do first.”
“Aye. After all…the best thing would be to prevent the invasion to begin with.”

Fule’s eyes turned to the villagers.

“It’s not just the Sylpheum people. If it comes to war, Shia and the demihumans will be harmed as well…”

Today, the village was in an uproar.

It was no surprise. There would be fighting. And they had to give up food and workers.

A messenger from the governor had arrived earlier, and given an order to the chief.
It was likely regarding the amount of food and workers to send.

The villagers were in despair.

“How will we manage… That is half a year’s worth of food for us. It is not possible.”
“As for workers, they mean to make us disposable pawns… When they invaded our country before, they also used people from other places as bait.”
“But we cannot resist…”

Not just this village, but all the demihuman villages in Langs were probably like this now…

“Still, how can we stop…”

Fule folded her arms and thought. And then she muttered.

“…We can go in and punch him?”
“Arder is one thing. But that Prince Ruda will be difficult to persuade.”

As Rienna said, the prince made things more complicated.
Even if we captured him, he would not yield.

Besides, he was clearly not someone who could be caught so easily…

As I was thinking about it, Rienna said,

“Perhaps it would be best to ask others for some information.”
“Indeed. If the teleportation gate is connected to Sheorl, it will be easy to go back and forth. And if it is broken, then Mappa can fix it.”
“Let’s do that. However, there’s one more thing…”
“Remlik.”

Obviously, we wanted to help him.

However, was that what Remlik wanted?

And once he was released, what would he think about this invasion?

In the mines of the Leorl mountains, Remlik had revealed a certain truth to us.

He was also fighting against humans.
Of course, not only humans.
But in spite of his personality, he was a prince.
And so it was only normal for him to fight for his country in times of war.

While he was a prisoner now, it was still possible that he could participate in the invasion.

On the other hand, he might side with us, and share his wisdom so that we could stop the war.
However, that was just our positive hope…

As I thought of such things, Fule asked,

“Are you wondering if you should help the prince?”
“Aye. We will have to discuss it together…”

I said, and then Rienna muttered.

“I don’t know… In the end, we do not know what Prince Remlik is thinking.”
“So we cannot decide like this.”

The Fule opened her mouth.”

“…Then, should we go and meet him?”

We did not even know where he was being held.
Still, she was right that talking to him was the fastest way.

But meeting him would ultimately mean freeing him.
That was what the situation would turn into.

And we didn’t know how he would move after that.
He might oppose us.

However, we still wanted to meet him.
I wanted to confirm his view of things. And I wanted his help to stop this.

I turned to Rienna and Fule and said,

“…Then let’s go and meet him. Even if he doesn’t cooperate with us, I want to know his movements.”
“That’s a good idea. If Prince Remlik sides with Prince Ruda, we will have to prepare. So there is no reason to not ask about his true intentions.”

Rienna said, and Fule nodded in agreement.

“He must be captured in the governor’s mansion. I’m sure a place like that has a lot of other information.”
“Indeed. We might learn something about Prince Ruda.”
“So it is decided, we will go and meet the prince… Though, we aren’t actually sure if he is in the mansion, or even in Langs…”

Fule said with a troubled expression.

And then Rienna opened her mouth awkwardly.

“…Perhaps some of the demihumans might know about his location, or where the prisons are.”

Thankfully, many demihumans had gathered around because of Mappa.

However, some would likely be afraid to talk to us… What if the governor learned of it?

Would they really agree to give us information?”

Just then, a voice called from behind.

“Um…”

When I turned around, I saw that Shia had a worried expression.

“You’re in trouble, aren’t you? If you want to leave Langs, I will help you. You already helped me. Once the fighting starts, everyone will be suspected of being a spy.”

She probably wanted to pay us back.
I was thankful for that.

Though, we didn’t need her help for that… However, she might know a demihuman who has been in the mansion or prisons.

It would be best to ask someone through her, and not from her directly.

“Shia… In that case, I want to ask you something. But you don’t have to answer if you think it is dangerous.”
“I’ll tell you anything that I know. What is it?”
“We want to speak with someone who has been inside of the governor’s house or prison. In secret, if possible.”

Shia answered at once.

“In other words, you want information about the mansion and prison… I don’t know what you are thinking, but leave it to me. There are many people in this village that have been taken there. They all have ill feelings towards Vader, and are grateful to you. They won’t tell the governor.”
“Can I count on you then?”
“Of course. You saved my life and brought us old Mappa. I hope you will all visit us again.”

Shia said. And then she rushed away to the other demihumans of the village.

Apparently, I did not have to worry about no one speaking to us…

After that, the demihumans told us what they knew, without reserve.
Some of them said they had even seen someone resembling Remlik entering the mansion last night.

Of course, it was possible that some of this information was not accurate.
However, even when comparing all of the information from various people, there were no signs that suggested someone was lying.
At the very least, we had received enough information to make a detailed map of the mansion and the prison.

And so with this information, we started to plan on how we could go and meet Remlik.
