Chapter 246 – A Weak Reaction!?

The Leorl demihumans were evacuated, and there was nothing to worry about in terms of food and supplies. We were also preparing for the possibility of a battle.

And so as we waited for Ruda and the governor to react, I decided to invite Remlik to a certain place… Sheorl.

Remlik was someone who we could trust.
Not only would I reveal our identities, but I wanted to ask for his cooperation in dealing with the black miasma that threatened the world, as well as the prophecy.

And so we went through the underground gate in the Leorl mines, and teleported to the Sheorl underground. After that, we used the railroad to head to the surface.

Remlik inhaled and then said,

“It’s not just fish that I smell. That is the sea… The sea is close. As you said, we really did come out into a place that is far away from the Lang province. However, I didn’t realize the gate had such power. The great silver really is amazing.”
“We call it Mithiril. And we have many things that are made from it as well.”
“So you are saying that it is not rare?”
“Not in Sheorl. In fact, I believe that the weapons and armor that the Vader people used, was originally from the Sheorl undergrounds.”
“I see. That would explain why they cannot find more, no matter how much they expand their territories.”
“We have not been able to mine any Mithiril ore either. Perhaps ancient civilizations have already gathered all of it.”
“Ancient civilizations, eh? Is that where this railroad and rail cart is from?”
“You could say that. In any case, thanks to it and the gate, we are able to send food and supplies to Leorl.”

I said as the iron carts passed us on the rails. They were carrying barrels of fish to Leorl.

Remlik replied with a calm expression.

“We are truly grateful. Still, this is amazing. They go up slopes without any horses.”

Said Remlik. But he did not look that surprised.

This calmness did not change, even when he arrived on the Sheorl surface.

We got out of the iron cart, and Remlik took in his surroundings.
And after a deep breath, he spoke.

“A never ending sea… I doubt there is any other place in this world that is so beautiful. Is that what they call a World Tree?”
“You know of it?”
“I have read about them in books. Apparently, there is a stump of one in the Sylpheum forest. In fact, the lake that I wanted to guide you to before I was caught. It is a place where the roots of a dead World Tree still remain.”

Remlik said as he looked up at the World Tree.

“I did not think there was one that was still alive.”

So he was surprised, even if he did not look like it.

Still, his reaction seemed weak compared to Alyssa from Arancia, and Beruna from Sylpheum.
Though, Remlik had been surprised by many things we said and did early on.

Perhaps he was just used to it by now.

No, that’s wrong… It was just that what I said was more important to him, than sights and facilities.

In that case, it was time to talk about what was important.

And so I revealed to him my identity.

“Remlik. I’m sorry for hiding it from you up until now. I am the lord of this island, Heal. As for why I withheld this information from you, as I said before, I wanted to know what kind of country Vader really was.”
“Considering how much power you people have, I can understand why you would want to keep it a secret. There is no need to apologize to me. More importantly, I am wondering why you revealed it right now. It was not necessary in order to help us.”
“You are right. I am revealing it now, because there is something that I wanted to ask you.”
“Ask me… As the lord of an island like this, it must be a very big request.”

Remlik started to sweat as he gulped.

Could it be…that he was not calm at all. And actually quite nervous?

“S-sorry! You do not need to become so tense. You can refuse. We would not force you.”
“I am getting even more anxious…”

Remlik said with a frightened look.
I had wanted to reassure him, but it had the opposite effect.

In any case, I told Remlik about the prophecy and the black miasma.
About Arancia, and why we wanted to protect Sylpheum.

On top of that, I told him that I wanted him to face the coming threat with us, as it would surely affect Vader.

“What do you say, Remlik?”
“What reason could I have to refuse? As I said before, I want to protect Vader. I also told you about a similar prophecy. We have the same problems.”

Remlik said with a nod.

“I don’t know what will happen, and where. But with your gate and skills, people can be evacuated from dangerous locations. Between allies, we can share information and support each other with food and supplies. Once I am established as the viceroy of the south, I would like to cooperate with your plan. I’m sure the demihumans will as well.”
“I see… Thank you, Remlik.”

I said with a deep bow, and then Remlik shook his head.

“I’m the one who should be thanking you, Heal. However, the danger has not left the Langs province yet.”
“Aye. There is still Ruda, the governor, and your father.”

Remlik nodded and extended his hand.

“While it will be troublesome, I must ask for your help.”
“Aye. Sheorl will not abandon its friends.”

I said as I shook Remlik’s hand.

“Still, this place really is astonishing. A beautiful place with a great city… The steam rising over there. Is that a hot spring?”
“You know about them?”
“Yes. I would like to pay it a visit once the battle is over.”
“Of course. And there are many people I want you to meet. In fact, what are they…”

A short distance away, dragons that were about the size of a human… The wyverns, which had hatched from the eggs that we received from Roydon, were looking in our direction.

Well, at Remlik, to be precise.
All of them looked like they were blushing. They were females.

“Hmm, what is it? Is that….”

Remlik looked at the wyverns, and they let out a high-pitched cry and ran away.

“They are our wyverns. As they are related to dragons, they might have been curious about you, Remlik.”
“I am flattered. Still, there seem to be many races on this island.”
“I didn’t tell you before, but on the far away Elto continent, there are many dragons. I have a friend who is over there.”
“A dragon continent? I have heard of such a place before. How interesting.”
“Aye. It is a wasteland now, but they had Dragon Stones, which allows people to turn into dragons. Now that I think about it, I have one that I bought from Roydon… Do you want it?”

Remlik’s eyes shone as he answered.

“Re-really!? I am interested, as I cannot transform well… Though, I do not know if I can even use it.”
“You can test it out then. I have other rare stones as well… But it will take too long to explain all of them.”
“Well, we can talk leisurely when everything is over.”
“We will do that then. …I would also like to make some changes to Leorl, so that it is a more comfortable place to live. Now, let’s go back.”
“Aye.”

Remlik nodded with a look of slight regret.

He must want to know more about Sheorl. And I wanted to show it to him.

But right now, there are things to do.

And so we made our way back to Leorl.
