“Brother Keita!”
Before he knew it, the children were waving their hands at him. Though, they did not approach. Perhaps it was because of Vengras.
“Ah, you finally woke up! How do you feel!”
The villagers also looked quite cheerful as they worked. They must have been so anxious after the monster attack. And then a saving hand appeared.
They likely could not imagine what was behind it all..
“…Mr. Vengras. There is something that I want to ask you.”
“Well then. Shall we return to the house?”
“Why!? Are you worried that the others will hear!?”
The worst possibility had entered his mind, and he could not help but shout.
Still, the man just smiled.
“No. If you wish to speak here, then that is fine as well. However, please think carefully.”
He said.
“What good would it do, if they did hear your question?”
“Be-because…you people!”
“That is only your assumption. But let us just say that you tell them, and they believe you. What will happen then?”
“What…”
“They will hate us. And then what?”
“Ah…”
He could do nothing.
It didn’t matter what happened behind the scenes.
The village was already gone.
If someone didn’t help, they would never recover.
“Of course, we will still help with the restoration, even if we are hated. But your words could lead to them living with bitter memories.”
“That’s no excuse!”
“As I said, you can do as you wish.”
Keita’s head started to hurt again.
Was this some kind of joke? He had woken up from a nightmare, only to be greeted by something even worse.
Still, the villagers were working hard to rebuild their lives.
“Apparently, you still have to rest. Now, let’s return to the house.”
And like that, Keita returned to his room.
He sat down on his bed and held his head.
“Canila.”
He opened his mouth for help.
“What should I do?”
His heart beat.
Once. Twice. Thrice.
Stil, the goddess said nothing.
“Canila…are you listening?”
Silence. Only anxiety filled the room.
“Canila!”
‘I’m sorry.’
That was all the goddess could say.
“…What?”
What was she doing? She had done nothing when he was fighting and getting wounded.
“What is wrong with you! Why!? Why didn’t you say anything to us! Why!”
‘Do…you really think that I could have done something!’
She screamed.
‘I cannot do anything! The Seer told me! That we were used! I heard all of it!! He planned everything! But there was nothing I could do!’
“Canila…”
‘I am just a little god…’
Her voice faded away.
Keita curled up on the bed inside of the eerie room. And only despair kept him company.
