Kamigami – 57 Part 4

Furukamuto summoned several mirrors in the air.

They showed various scenes of villages and towns being burned and people being trampled by monsters.

“Look. At all of this misery. The monsters slaughter people without mercy. They burn the fields and plunder their food. Heroes exist in order to stop such tragedies from happening. Isn’t that true?”
“Ye…yes… It’s true.”

“But is that what they are doing?”

The god spat. And then the scene changed. A large group of Heroes were chasing after a single kobold.

“That’s…Sheto…”
“I have always believed there was a flaw in the system. By opening the doors to lesser gods and raising Heroes, we could gain the power to save the world. And by defeating the Demon King, a peaceful world can be built. However, it was just a mistake.”

As the hundred Heroes went off to hunt Sheto, many villages and towns were left unprotected. And so they were attacked by monsters.

“The lesser gods are limited when it comes to blessings. And so their Heroes have little choice but to prioritize gaining experience at the cost of the people they are supposed to save. Is that not strange? Are not gods supposed to lead their believers and grant them grace to live healthy lives? Surely they should not be so corrupt as to abandon them in order to defeat another?”
“I understand what you are saying… But, it’s not…”
“On the night that I win this game, I intend to make it so that lesser gods cannot participate, unless they have a certain number of territories.”

Said Furukamuto.

“When the weak get involved in a battle for the future of the world, there is chaos. It is clear as day if you see their actions during battle. The other gods will follow my lead.”

Something was strange.

Even though what he was saying made sense, Keita felt that there was something wrong as well.

By using this one incident, he was trying to ban lesser gods without land from participating in the games.

“Ah…”

Keita raised his voice when he realized the truth.

That incident. The battle between the kobold and the hundred Heroes. The result.

And the future that Furukamuto wanted.

“You want to…monopolize the game.”

The red-headed god nodded with satisfaction.

“However, it is also true that it is the best path for everyone. Do you not agree?”

His dislike for this god was growing. How much of this was calculated? If everything was planned, then there was no way that Keita could be persuaded.

“You made the Heroes fight against Sheto!?”

“As if I needed a plan for something so trivial. Of course, I could see where Zephalis’s foolishness would lead to. And I suppose it is true that I set things into motion with an interesting pawn.”

A new image appeared in one of the mirrors. It was a large rat who stood on two legs. Furukamuto watched it with amusement.

“At first, I thought this rat would be the victor at Morania. There was plenty of reason to think he could beat Zephalis, who relied too much on power. Also, he had a strong ambition to swallow up all of the lesser gods.”

“On top of that, you knew that you were going to win… Because like Sheto, you can use the MonColo rules, having high-level soldiers clash until you win…”

“As he was a small rat, I expected it to take some time. But things moved a little more quickly than expected.”

Even after seeing the way it ended, the god was not moved. He must think that Sheto was an easier opponent.

“And now, Salia and her kobold have run out of luck. I will crush them along with the demon general who caught them. And there will be no problem.”

“How do you know!? Those two might still…”

“And I have ways of stopping that. However, there is one thing that I must do first.”

The god said calmly. If you did not know the meaning behind his words, you might assume that he was kind.

However, the words could not have been more horrible.

“I will give you a choice. A dishonorable death. Or to retire with honor.”

“Dishonorable death… What do you…”
“It is quite simple. The village of Lindle fell because you allowed that kobold inside. There will be proof of this.”
