New rules had to be considered
“Sebastian. Could you contact my father immediately?”
“Aside from the regular messages we send him?”
“Yes. Well, perhaps it might not seem like an emergency, but…”
“Hmm. You must be thinking about the familiars.”
Because of what happened with Volgrau and Deurgo.
Apparently, there were no proper rules about how you treated familiars. And so there was no punishment in place.
“Yes. After hearing Deurgo’s story, it is clear that he thinks he did not do anything wrong.”
“Indeed. He never felt guilty about it.”
“I don’t think everyone is like that, and I’ve seen people who have good relationships with their familiar. However, I’m afraid there are also others like Deurgo.”
Even if he was a rare case, there would surely be others like him in the future. Who knows, something similar might be happening right now.
And so I agreed that the matter must be given some serious thought.
“Yes. Up until now, it was not seen as an issue, as hardly anyone would have thought of acquiring a familiar… Very well. I will contact His Grace so that he can consider doing something about it.”
“I am sure he and the people at the main house will be able to think of something.”
“They will likely want your opinion as well, Lady Claire. After all, you and Lady Tilura are the only ones in the family who have familiars. And you are living with Mr. Takumi and Leo.”
“Yes…”
Mr. Ekenhart was fond of Sherry and the fenrirs, so he would take the matter seriously.
After that, Claire and Sebastian talked about the message they would send.
I thanked Alfred for his hard work, and then waited with Leo, Tilura and Volgrau.
One of the guards even brought out a table and chairs for us. And so we drank tea that Alfred had made.
Once Claire and Sebastian were finished, and word had been sent to Mr. Ekenhart, we made our way to Ms. Isabelle’s store.
And on the way…
“This is a reward, Leo. Since you did so well.”
“Wuff-wuff!”
“Kyau?”
“Sherry… Well, I suppose you did your best too. And you too, Volgrau.”
“Kyau! Kyau!”
“Bow!”
We bought some sausages from a street stall.
Of course, it had been almost too easy for Leo. Still, I wanted to reward her for cooperating.
Sherry…had done her best to not attack Deurgo several times. And we all knew how hard that was.
Volgrau had suffered a lot, and deserved to have a treat.
“Hehe. They all look so happy.”
“I hope they can still eat dinner after this… Well, perhaps there is no need to worry about that.”
As we did not want to get in anyone’s way, we moved to a different spot that was close to Ms. Isabelle’s store.
“Ah, that’s right. Claire. Supposing Tilura does have the Gift… I think I better talk to her alone.”
“Alone? Yes…I suppose there are things only people with the Gift can understand. I will make sure she has some time when we return to the house.”
“Thank you.”
“Well…you didn’t even need to ask me. I am sure she would be happy to talk to you.”
She was right, of course. The thing was, it wasn’t really about having the Gift. I wanted to talk about their ancestor, Josephine.
Perhaps it would be better for Mr. Ekenhart to tell her. But since he was not here, I had to do it instead.
“Ah, and Rahle should hear it as well. In that case, I suppose we better talk outside…”
“Rahle? Why not the garden then? There is plenty of space.”
“Yes. I’ll do that.”
