#45 – Assault 1
The imperial city was near the bank of a great river.
Civilizations always grew near such places. It was called the Remedia river, and was the source of the empire’s glory.
There was very little trade across the sea. As the gigantic monsters made it too dangerous. And so their ship technology was rather behind.
However, when it came to transportation by lake, things were a different story.
The Remedia river was so wide that you could not see the other side from the port on the south side of the city.
It was currently shrouded in the shadows of night.
In the quietness, where only the sounds of waves could be heard…Yukito looked up at the building that loomed over him. It was the base of a certain company. Among the many modern buildings in the city, this was one of the tallest, and rivaled the Avanciel hotel.
“To use an entire building like this… How much money are they making?”
“It’s the most lucrative trade in the country now. To be honest, I wouldn’t want to let them go either.”
“You’re one to talk. Though, I think it’ll just be a change in leadership.”
“Both of you are too relaxed.”
As Grafios and Ryu talked, Yukito unsheathed the sword at his belt.
The building was the base of the Arviness liberation army… Or rather, the trade company that helped them.
Black Tower Dragon was a syndicate. They mainly made money from trade—especially smuggling from other lands through the purple and silver routes. Most were banned goods, but Black Tower Dragon also had companies that were completely legal. Of course, it was all under the surface, and people were not supposed to know of the connection.
Still, when connections were weaker…it was easy to use them.
For instance, with this company, from the south—funds were quietly streaming in from Secilia. Funds from Yugrile nobles.
And like that, without telling even Black Tower Dragon, they sheltered the Arviness liberation army.
“They have to be educated after interfering with our turf.”
Ryu said as he tapped his sword against his shoulder. Lee, the large man who stood next to him, did not react. However, he stared at the building with intensity.
There were four people in all.
“I’ve explained everything to the cops. This time, we will not take the blame for anything, no matter how wild things get.”
“Huh… Even killing then. That’s Black Tower Dragon for you.”
“…I hope you haven’t forgotten your promise, Ryu.”
Ryu nodded.
The three conditions. The first was that they would never try and lie or manipulate them again. The second was that they would not harm any of Yukito’s friends. The third was that they would be the rear guard.
“Our old man isn’t so senile that he would break his promise.”
Yukito had his doubts, but he kept them to himself.
As soon as they stepped foot into the lot in front of the building, Yukito lowered his stance.
“Here they come.”
Just as he said it.
Numerous bullets shot towards them.
“…Hey! What’s going on!?”
Grafios shouted as the sparks flew.
They were waiting for them… In other words, information of today’s attack had leaked. Only someone from Phoenix Town could have done that.
However, it wasn’t just Yukito and Grafios who were being shot at. Ryu and Lee were as well. So surely it could not have been them.
“Hey, look up!”
Someone shouted, and they looked up. Though, Yukito had noticed it already.
The sounds that shook the air. So loud it erased the gunfire as it showed itself.
“An attack helicopter!?”
Ryu said in disbelief.
That’s when the two giant gatling guns fired.
Grafios and the others ran for cover.
“…Mr. Grafios.”
Yukito tapped him on the shoulder.
“I’m going up. You deal with the front.”
“Huh? What are you…”
But before he could finish, Yukito jumped out of cover.
Grafios and the others could not understand what they were seeing.
After bending his knees, his body was flying in the air.
If that was all, it would be understandable. However, he then kicked the empty air and accelerated.
And then he moved from left to right, faster than the eye could follow.
That was when Grafios remembered his fight with Emily.
(Yes, now that I think about it…)
And so he just chuckled when Yukito reached the helicopter, cut open the steel doors, and entered.
(Anything is possible with him.)
It really was ridiculous. Still, the gunfire had stopped, and so Grafios charged towards the entrance of the building.
