#46 – Assault 2
“Land on the roof. Or this chopper is going down.”
As he was being threatened with a blade at his throat, the pilot had no choice but to obey the order.
He had thought that they had an absolute advantage, but for some reason, the door had been cut open. Once the enemy was inside, there was nothing that he could do.
And so the helicopter landed on the roof, and Yukito jumped out. By then, he had knocked the pilot unconscious, and cut the blades, so the helicopter would not be able to take off again.
As for why he had not just let it crash… He did not want to cause any damage or injure civilians.
(So high!)
The roof offered an awe-inspiring view of the imperial capital. Had he been scared of heights, the strong winds would have been enough for his legs to give in.
Regardless, the lights of the night city shone beautifully, like something from a painting.
(Are Ms. Iria and the others somewhere near one of those lights?)
He thought of such things while raising his foot over the edge of the roof.
The strong winds blew at his coat. He could hear the faint sounds of combat below. Grafios and the others.
(There should be no problem if I leave everything to him.)
In that case…
It would be a great waste of time to go through each floor one by one.
His target was the strong one who was lurking somewhere in the building.
Whoever killed the prime minister was no ordinary assassin. They would have had to be Grafios’s equal at the very least.
He closed his eyes and served for the presence.
“…There you are.”
Yukito smiled, and then threw himself off of the building.
But instead of falling—-he was running. Down the building’s surface.
And then…
“Shi…!”
Unleashed.
A line ran down the giant glass window. He kicked the air again, and broke through the glass, entering the building.
As the shards of glass flew in the air, Yukito quietly stood up.
“Who-who are you…!”
The men inside looked at him with wide eyes. At a glance, they looked like salary men, but they were carrying out cardboard boxes.
“Raise your hands and get on the floor. Or you’ll die.”
Yukito warned them as a courtesy.
Though…he knew that they would not listen.
They frantically dropped the boxes and pulled out pistols. And without hesitation, they pulled the triggers. Or rather…they tried to.
“I warned you.”
Cutting Form—Scattered Flowers.
The blade flashed in the air, like a spreading flower.
And it was red. The blood splatters bloomed brightly and danced.
He had been told in advance that there was no need to hold back.
Besides, Yukito was not going to have mercy towards a group of men who fired at him.
He flung the blood off of his blade, and looked at the few men who remained.
The ones whose reactions were delayed, or who had no combat ability. The sight of their comrades being struck down at an instant—and Yukito’s intimidating air, had made them freeze.
“Where’s your boss?”
And so none of them could go against Yukito.
A few of them pointed to a door at the back. But just as Yukito took one step towards it…
There was a high-pitched ring, and sparks suddenly flew in the air.
“…What!?”
Yukito heard the voice, which sounded confused.
It was coming from above, where no one should have been.
“Huh.”
Yukito smiled with interest.
“Invisiblity. There really are all kinds of magic arts in this world.”
He could hear the gulp and breathing.
Even the attacker’s blade was invisible. What a horrifying skill. Though, it did not erase the sounds.
The blades clashed loudly.
Yukito had never fought an invisible enemy before. However, when it came to high speed combat that used ki, following a presence was nothing. At least for someone who was trained by the Sword Saint.
And it ended all too quickly.
After a few blows and one forward step, his sword swung upwards.
And though there seemed to be no one there, a splatter of blood appeared on the wall.
With a clatter, a sword fell to the floor, and the invisibility was deactivated.
“So that’s what you look like.”
A surprisingly short man. He was in his thirties, and had black hair.
Yukito’s blade pointed quietly at his face.
“…Are you the serial killer they’re searching for?”
The man remained silent.
But his face went pale.
He killed for a living.
And he had complete confidence in his own ability.
Invisibility and sword arts. With those two, there never had been a target that he could not kill.
However…it all seemed meaningless now. That was how big the difference between them was.
He felt like a child.
As he looked on in despair, Yukito continued.
“Don’t worry. At least for now… As I am not going to kill you.”
Both because Taren told him not to, but it was also Yukito’s own will.
Whether he gave him to the police or Black Tower Dragon, or anyone else. Yukito’s true purpose was to capture the culprit, that was all.
The man was groaning with pain, as his arm had been cut off.
“Confess everything. How you killed the prime minister. All of it.”
“I can’t…”
He began to say.
Yukito noticed it, and jumped back.
Just as the man’s head exploded like a tomato.
(What…!?)
He did not understand what had happened. The second time he had experienced such a thing.
The first was when he fought against the sorcerer called Deep Aulegia. But this time, it was different.
Not wanting to make the same mistake twice, Yukito had set up a magic detection art around the area, which Stelia had taught him.
(That wasn’t magic arts. Then…)
Yukito looked outside of the building.
“A sniper…!”
He detected it immediately and flew back.
Then a bullet shot into the wall, passing where his head would have been.
Yukito clicked his tongue but calmly began to calculate the position of the sniper.
Judging by the angle, it had to be a building of similar height. He looked out of the window…and was stunned.
Yukito knew of snipers from his previous life. And he had been wary of them, as this was a world of guns.
But this was something he had not considered.
In this world of magic—things that were not possible in his old world were possible. Like ultra long-range sniping.
They had only started to make skyscrapers in the capital during the last decade.
Including the ones in construction, there were a decent number of them. However, not many were as tall as this building.
And there was only one building where you could shoot at this angle.
About twenty kilometers away.
(…The Avanshiel!?)
Just then, Yukito began running into the air.
