Ken yo, kaku katariki – 139

47 – Attack 3

20 km away. It was ridiculous. The only reason both buildings were in view of each other was because they were so tall. They were practically on opposite sides of the city.
That was nearly fifty times farther than the standard sniping range. This surpassed anything a genius sniper would be able to do. It was just impossible.

But the trick was quite simple. Use magic arts to create a path—a cylinder, which accelerates the bullet.
When allowed to ignore physical resistance, the bullet exceeded the speed of sound. And as it was magic, there was no sonic boom. A perfect art for assassinations.

Yukito didn’t know much about magic arts, and so he did not necessarily understand everything.
However…
With a flash, he cut down the bullet.
Even though it should have been impossible to see it.

It wasn’t a matter of strength. Blocking it from the front would have resulted in the blade breaking. He had cut through it while angling it so that it slid down the edge.

And then he kicked the air once more.
At that point, what he was doing was closer to flying. Like a comet, he flew straight towards the Avanshiel hotel.

(…!!)

The sniper was stunned by the sight.
…This technique only worked with the cooperation of multiple people. The sniper, an observer, and two magic arts users.
They had not been afraid of death. They were afraid that this art would become known.
That it would expose their boss…

“…Retreat.”

Said the observer, in a suite on the top floor of the hotel.
They immediately started to disassemble the rifle and pack it up.
Thankfully, Yukito was twenty kilometers away, and could not reach them so quickly. They still had time.

With coordinated movements, they went to open the door, but…
It would not open.

The man felt a chill go up his spine, and he jumped back.
At the same time, flames like magma blew open the door.

Amidst the debris, a silver-haired girl appeared from the other side of the blown away door.
Aize Lilieth. The girl who had won the general division at the tournament was holding her spear.

(This is bad…!)

The men looked frantic for a moment.
If it was just her, there was no problem. However, they could sense others.
Judging by the numbers, they were clearly at a disadvantage.

“Let’s go!!”

They were quick to make a decision.
After exchanging a few blows with Aize, the man shouted and quickly jumped and broke through the glass window.

There was three hundred meters of open air below. Without a parachute, such a fall would be fatal.
However, the men used magic arts to control the wind, and so just before landing, they rolled forward and killed the impact.
However. Things did not end there.
As they stood up, a cold wind blew.

Before they knew it…ice and white mist surrounded the men.

“…Sorry.”

Crack. Crack. While stepping on pillars of ice, the figure appeared.
Beautiful and sharp.

“This is a dead end.”

Said Iria Orlando as she unsheathed her sword.

◆ ◇ ◆

Iria Orlando remembered.
The reason that she was here was a certain phone call that had come, just as they were going to go after Yukito.

That was when she knew.
The prime minister had died in the place that the Yukito was invited.
She also learned the reason that the festival was not canceled.
…And what Yukito was now involved in.

However, they were not allowed to contact Yukito, or even leave the hotel. And now that they knew, they were carefully monitored by the intelligence department.

‘…I’m sorry. It’s too dangerous for you to act without so much uncertainty. He would not want that either.’

It was true. If you left emotion out of it.
And so Iria would do her best in this moment, on the stage prepared for them. That was the only thing she could do to help Yukito.

The cold mist grew thicker.
And then…

“…A student.”

The man clicked his tongue, and they all unsheathed their swords.
Military swords, which were on the shorter side, but easier to carry.

“Hurry up and kill her.”

She could send their strength, but at the same time, Iria recalled that time in the past where she had been ruled by her emotions, and ran recklessly into battle. And she had almost died.
Well, she was not foolish enough to repeat that.

“Gah!?”

One of the men in the back let out a scream and then crumpled to the ground.
As the others jumped back and moved away, they saw a man standing there with a spear.
He had not been there a moment ago… No, he had been hiding in the mist. Even Iria had not detected him.

The brown skin and red eyes.

“…It’s time to put an end to this.”

Gileus Marion.
The Black Wolf was standing there.
