Kamigami – 43 Part 1

Chapter 8 – Village Hero

Canila watched with some apprehension as the group rushed on the other side of the mirror.

A boy in robes was in the front, and he was leading villagers who were armed with axes and farming tools.

‘Canila. What can you see from there?’

Keita sounded a little frantic. It was likely due to the report from the hunter who had been in the mountain. It would not be so bad if it was just goblins, but if there were ogre tracks as well, then the caravan would not be safe.

“I’m sorry. I will be able to tell if you move a little closer…”

At most, the scouting range was one kilometer around the Hero.

‘I’m sorry! Everyone, we must pick up the pace!’

The group raised their speed, and the scene in the mirror came out onto the road.

Recently, there were regular patrols from Lindle here, and so there had been fewer attacks from monsters.

Perhaps due to that, caravans seemed to underestimate the number of guards needed, as they also wanted to cut costs. And this time, the caravan wasn’t just transporting goods, but also relocating refugees. If something were to happen, it would be a disaster.

“…Wait a minute, Keita! Something is strange!”

‘Everyone! Stop!’

The cliffs along the road had crumbled horribly, and she could see that a fierce battle had occurred.

And in the center, a giant ogre stood.

“There is a single ogre about two-hundred meters ahead. But the others… Are all dead. Though, I can see humans hiding behind a wagon…”
‘If that’s the case, maybe it will be fine. I will go first.’

Keita began to say, but Canila was not listening.

Something had jumped down from the top of the cliff. It was small and wore a cape. Its dog-like face had a serious expression.

‘What is it? Canila?’

“Keita. Hurry up and defeat that ogre! However, do not attack the kobold who is close by!”

‘A kobold… Could it be!’

“I’ll leave the rest to you. I have to go.”

She gave the order, and then left the god seat.

“Could it be…”

The other gods looked at her with surprise when she came out into the plaza, but she didn’t care.

“Why is this…”

She had considered the possibility that they would meet. Still, it seemed unlikely, as long as they lay low.

“I seek an audience!”

She said while standing in front of the southern door.

“I, Canila Farada, wish to see the Goddess of Peace. Saliashe!”

“I am sorry, but she is not here right now.”

The dryad answered. Canila looked around. The other gods stared at her with interest. And then one of them stepped forward.

“Oh, goddess Canila…how unusual.”
“A…Ah, hello…”

She looked away as if to avoid the gaze of the elf god.

“By the way, while I knew you had participated in the game…I am rather…surprised that you are still playing.”
“Uh…yes…”

All the gods who had sent their Heroes to Morania were  now turned into statues. It had knocked out nearly all of the players, so it would not have been surprising if someone as insignificant as her had been among them.

“It appears that you wish to visit Lady Saliashe?”
“Uh…yes. Do you…know something?”
“She is likely with the dragon god. She seems to spend a lot of time there these days.”

“Is…is that so!? Thank you!”

She bowed her head and then walked towards the western gate. She knew that it was rude, but she had other priorities right now.

“I seek an audience! I, Canila Farada.”
‘Huh? Lady Canila? What do you want?’

She ignored the stunned little dragon and shouted.

“Salia! You are here, aren’t you!? Please let me speak to you!”

‘Ah…master! Lady Canila has visited! She says it has to do with Lady Salia…’

The door opened and a path appeared in front of her. And there were two faces looking at her with surprise.

“Ca…Canila!? You…is it really you!?”

“It’s been a long time, Sallia.”

Canila did her best to smile at the sight of her old friend.
