Paintbrush Summoner – 113

Chapter 113 –  At the Field Hospital for Wounded Soldiers

Menew and Totto headed to a wooden building that was a short distance away from the place that had formerly been a battlefield.

As it was a place to treat thousands of people, there was nothing else in the area. There were a few large tents near the building where people were being rested. It had been about one month since the war.

They were then welcomed by a member of the medical guild. Apparently, they were quite desperate for help.

After being taken to a room, the current situation was explained to them.

The most badly wounded people were kept inside of the building. And while they had about 100 people on staff, it was not enough.

They had run out of healing potions a long time ago, and were currently making due with magic. But when it came to recovery of magic energy, food and sleep was a necessity.  And they could seem to keep up with the demand.

“If we had anything above mid-level potions, we would be able to heal most of the people in the tents. As for the people in the buildings, we would want high-level potions… But there is not enough supply, even if we have the money to pay for them. And we lack personnel.”

Menew and Totto looked at each other and whispered.

“If we combined my potions with the ones I gave you, Mr. Menew…it should be enough…”

“If we only have high-level potions, we could dilute them so there is enough for everyone. Also, I will go around and cast healing magic on the people in the building.”

They raised their heads after deciding this. And then they took out the potions from the pouch and Mr. Wal.

The guild worker looked at them in astonishment.

“Wh-what is this…!?”

“Our personal stock. They are all high-level potions. And so this alchemist here will look at the wounded and district them accordingly.”

“Can you have someone guide me? I am not too bright when it comes to medicine. And so I would need someone to tell me how much is needed. But I can make more potions if it is necessary.”

The person in charge looked at them as if looking at god. And he had tears in his eyes.

With these potions, the situation would change considerably.

They had been working day and night for over a month. And yet now, it looked like things would change in an instant.

“I will help to treat the heavily wounded. I am sure that all of you are tired, so please rest.”

“Oh…!”

This was quite a saving hand.

“While I am using my magic, you should all rest. In fact, it would be best for me if you all kept your distance.”

“No, but…”

Within the building, there were nearly a thousand patients. And yet he was acting like he could treat all of them himself.

“…I can use healing magic, but I do not belong to the medical guild. Please take that into consideration.”

“But…we do not want any more of them to die.”

This war had already resulted in protests from the people. More death would only make things worse.

Totto then opened his mouth.

“You can trust Mr. Menew! Please don’t worry about it.”

He was the alchemist who had given them this mountain of medicine.

Menew and the man stared at each other for a moment, and then he gave in.

“…But if something happens, please call me.”

“Yes, of course.”

Like that, they drove the guild worker out of the building. Menew then left the tents to Totto, while he went around the various rooms.

From every corner, he heard the painful groans.

Each room was in a terrible state. Thankfully, it was mostly clean, but the sight and smell was horrible.

(In other words, I just have to cast a powerful heal on these people?)

While generalized, it was the right answer.

The magic of the tired guild workers was closer to low-level magic at this point.

Some of the sleeping patients were missing arms and legs. Others had lost internal organs. It was all the others could do to keep them alive.

And so Menew would use one powerful spell to change the situation all at once.

After checking all of the rooms, he returned to the room where they had talked to the person in charge.

He then closed his eyes, held up his staff, and created an image in his mind of the entire building.

With Heal, the effect changed depending on the amount of magic energy. After imaging the whole building being filled with energy, Menew cast a green magic circle that surrounded it all.

Light unleashed from the magic circle, and then it spread out from the bottom to the top.

(High is not enough.. Excellent! That kind of Heal…)

Menew thought, and the light rose up even higher until it went over the roof of the building.

“Phew…”

He must have used one-third of his energy. Even Menew felt tired as he sat down and sighed.

He wanted to go and looked at the others, but there were so many of them.

And so he took out his sketchbook and drew ten spirits that resembled floating eyeballs. And then after creating them, made them fly away to the other rooms.

They went through the walls and ceilings and became Menew’s eyes.

After closing his eyes, he imagined that he was standing in front of ten monitors.

And in each monitor, he could see what the eyeballs were seeing.

However, perhaps it was not necessary.

“I-I am healed… I am healed!”

“I have arms! Look! I have arms!”

“Ah, I thought that I would never walk again…! But my legs are on the floor!”

He heard the voices from all over the building.
