Chapter 74 – Tree Dragon Waldung

“Now, it’s time to show your ability!”

Menew said excitedly. However, Waldung was lacking in energy.

It was little wonder. The whole area was a wasteland. The gold energy was strong, and there was no way that Waldung could do much by himself.

“What’s the matter?”

Menew asked at his feet. Waldung lowered his head gravely.

“I cannot fight like this. There is too little tree energy.”

“So you will be able to fight if there is more?”

Menew put away his staff and took out his brush and sketchbook.

“A mere human has summoned the tree dragon…!? Impossible. This is impossible…!?”

While the gold dragon was still stunned, Menew climbed onto Waldung’s back in order to look at the world below.

However, it was not high enough.

The wind stroked his cheek. It wasn’t as if there was no tree energy here at all.

“Fly, Waldung.”

“Understood.”

While it was a short reply and answer, their minds were still connected.

And so Waldung extended his wings.

They beat the air as the giant body rose. And then they ascended to a point where the giant tree was just a small dot.

Here, he could finally see the edges of the blackened wasteland.

After that, the rest was easy for Menew.

He began to draw a field in his sketchbook.

Green sprouts, veins of water underground, rich soil. He pulled out information of the original forest from Waldung’s mind.

The awakening of life. His brush filled the page with numerous shades of green, and details of leaves and branches.

“…won’t let you!”

He sensed a change with the gold dragon. He instinctively knew that they could not stay there, and he jumped up.

In the air, a golden spear appeared and tried to skewer them both, but it hit against an invisible wall and disappeared.

“Thank you, Old Mofu.”

“Bah, it was nothing. I came, so I must be useful.”

Mofusen’s barrier had stopped the attack and dispersed the energy.

Even though dragon’s were high-ranking creatures, when it came to their magic, Mofusen was still superior.

Menew concentrated and drew beautiful greenery.

When seen from afar, people saw things as a vague whole.

But if you focus on a single point, you could see the details.

Menew’s eyes were able to do both at the same time.

Over the vast greenery, smaller details, browns, yellows, and a blue that mirrored the sky.

Even with his Divine Artist skill, it took him five minutes to draw all of it. However, Mofusen and Ralph kept the enemy busy.

Ralph would use the golden pillars as footholds to climb, and then knock them down. It was practically an inhuman feat.

“Sorry.”

He went to the back of the gold dragon, cut off its head.

“Ahh… I liked that doll…”

A voice murmurs as the head falls to the floor.

But the body was still hovering in the air, and not a single drop of blood was spilt.

The stump showed that the body was metal and hollow. Menew was reminded of a lotus root. Regardless, he placed his hand over his finished picture and shouted.

“This is the real appearance of the Vala forest!”

Currents of energy flowed out from Menew’s body.

The shining magic energy rained down over the lands, and plants began to sprout out all at once.

Towards the sky, they grew as if to praise the sunlight that came down on them. The vast lands began to take back its former shape.

“How beautiful…”

Mofusen muttered, and Totto laughed.

“Mr. Menew really is amazing!”

Menew’s anger was painted over with joy.

Waldung’s emotion had made him angry, and now Waldung’s emotion made him happy.

It was both his own heart, and the heart of someone else who was there.

“Arghhh… I worked so hard to remake it all…!”

The body moved down towards the head and picked it up and reconnected it.

“Tree dragon. Even now, I am more powerful than you.”

Waldung also descended to the ground, and answered with a happy roar.

“You are not even in your true form. I was summoned by Menew, and would never lose to you!”

While Menew’s magic energy was greatly depleted, there were still things that he could do.

The vast lands. He waved his staff over the greenery, gathering together the energy, and sending it over to Waldung.

Waldung collected the energy towards his mouth.

It would cause the target to rot. And he unleashed the breath at the gold dragon. And then the metal body started to melt away. It was quite a grotesque sight.

“No, no. My real body…my real body would not have lost…!”

Those were its final words as the gold dragon vanished.

“Yes! You won, Mr. Wal!”

Menew threw his arms around Waldung’s scale covered neck. While he had a great smile on his face, a moment later, he collapsed limply to the ground.

“Menew!”

“Mr. Menew!”

Ralph and Totto rushed towards him.

“Sorry, sorry. I seem to be depleted…. I’m so sleepy…”

He had summoned a whole dragon, taken back the lands, and gathered energy over a wide area.

So it was no wonder that he was in this state.

“Master, you should rest in my home.”

Waldung walked towards the great tree and lay down near the roots. And then Ralph helped Menew climb down.

“I shall keep guard. You rest here.”

Mofusen said. And so Menew agreed gratefully.

There was a hollowed out area in the tree. Inside, it was like a ten story building. It showed just how big the tree was.

Inside, it was filled with sparkling gold. Knowing that this gold was the reason for angering the gold dragon, Menew wanted to scold Waldung immediately and tell him to return it. But he did not have the strength now.

Totto’s eyes shone.

While they were pushed to the side in favor of the treasure, there were also mountains of rare fragrant wood and amber.

“Mr. Wal! This! Why!”

Totto realized that Menew was trying to sleep, and he covered his mouth. Menew was on top of a hammock made from a leaf. He was curled up and closed his eyes.

“Why is something so valuable here…gathering dust?”

“Is that…valuable? But there is so much of it.”

“If you sell it in the human world, you will get more platinum than what is inside your bed.”

As Mr. Wal had never had much to do with humans before. And he was not happy to hear this.

He already had a bed, and he did not crave gold like he once did before. It was all so troublesome for him now.

“Take what you want. I do not need it now.”

He muttered sadly. And like that, Waldung also drifted off to sleep.
