Kamigami – 58 Part 6

The thunderous sounds that had been echoing around them suddenly stopped.

Even the monsters that had been throwing spears and stones in front of Sheto had also stopped moving.

“I see… They are buying time like that, and getting into formation on the battlefield.”

Berganda had been shouting orders for some time, but he now spoke in a shockingly calm voice as he watched the strange sight.

While staying out of range of the stones and spears, the soldiers of the Hero’s army were lining up with their shields raised.

‘Do you see? By staying close and protecting each other, they block anything flying their way. And from the gaps, they thrust their spears. Not one or two. But thousands, tens of thousands of humans do it all at once.’

“But…why not go to the edge then?”

‘Look carefully. The riders on both sides.’

Due to the goblins in front of him, he could not see well. Still, Sheto tried to get a better look.

“What is it? You want to see the front?”

Thick hands suddenly wrapped around him.

“Ahh!? Wh-what! Stop this!”

“Hey, calm down. I am going to let you see everything.”

Before Sheto could continue protesting, he was placed on top of the minotaur’s shoulder. As soon as his vision cleared, the full scale and force of the Hero’s army spread out before him.

It was a giant wall.

From one corner of his vision to the other, a line of shields. And each held a spear that was three times as long as they were tall.

Without moving a muscle, the humans stood there as if waiting for something. And on both edges, knights in full armor watched the enemy.

Naturally, his eyes started to count. Ten, fifty, a hundred… Still, the line did not end…

“What is…”

His voice was raspy. His stomach grew tight with nervousness and fear.

Sheto had never seen an army like this before. Not the monsters who captured him, or even the hundred Heroes. They seemed like nothing in comparison.

“Can, you…win?”

“We must win. They mean to slaughter all of us. That is war.”

‘And we must deal with them too. The Seer’s Hero, and his divine rule.’

Ridiculous. Sheto wanted to say it, but he gulped instead. For some reason, both Berganda and Salia sounded calm. As if they had just announced they were going to the forest to pick fruit.

It was insane. How could it be possible?

“Are you shaking? You look bold, but are really a coward then… I do not understand you.”

The minotaur muttered.

“I, I am just a kobold. Don’t know about, armies…war.”

“Indeed. However, you still fought up until now. Why is that?”

“I, don’t fight. Just hunt! This is…”

“…Just hunt? Hmm.”

The minotaur nodded as if satisfied.

And then he took a deep breath.

“WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!”

And explosive roar.

It was so loud that his eardrums went numb, and his vision darkened. At the same time, the seemingly immovable wall seemed to shift a little.

“Look well! In the end, that wall of shields was made by humans! It can be shaken and crushed! Do not be fooled!”

“Ah…”

The effect on the monsters was clear.

Even Sheto felt the fear melting away.

“Feel any better? Eh?”

“Huh?”

“Fear of large things will lead to death. Surely you know what it’s like to hunt large beasts? Just think of this as hunting a boar or bear.”

The general’s voice was a lot gentler than what you’d expect from such a ferocious face.

He was clearly trying to encourage Sheto.

“Komos! Take Magdena and the other units and move to the left! I will take the others to the right! The orcs will support the throwing units!”

“Aye!”

“All soldiers, charge!”

The monsters were revived now, and they all rushed forward.

And while still carrying Sheto, Bergand himself began to advance in the momentum of the waves.

“Ahhhhh! Wait! I’m still here! Let me down!”

“Bahahaha! Then you better hang on tight!”
