Berganda’s large hand grabbed Sheto’s neck and made him hold onto his back.
“Sa-Salia! What should I do? Can’t get away!”
‘Just hold on for now! If you fall off amidst this chaos, they will end up trampleing you to death!’
Like a child on a parent’s back, Sheto clung to the hard armor and looked over the minotaur’s shoulder. Up ahead, the monsters continued their dash around to the side of the human army.
The air was filled with the sounds of their feet. Dush rose into the air.
The sun was up now, with the white light of dawn turning the sky blue.
Rocks and twigs crunched underfoot, and the large backs of the goblins and orcs charged as one. SHeto and Berganda were behind them just a little, near the center of the horde. And they were part of the attack wave.
“On the right side! The cavalry are coming!”
The hundred mounted knights were charging towards them. The sounds of the hooves were so loud that it was difficult to hear anything else.
“Nenje, Garima, raise the spears and block their path! Oldo, Magen, stop and support them!”
Dozens of goblins raised their spears. The butt ends were driven into the ground, while the heads faced forward at an angle. Behind them, the others prepared their bows and slings.
“Y-you know everyone’s names!?”
“Obviously, I don’t remember all of them. But you have to know the captains!”
With a heavy thud, several knights fell to the ground. Still, it was not enough to stop the charge, and the horses continued their advance.
“General! Damn it!”
A wall of flesh was made at an astonishing speed. The monster horde used their bodies to push the enemy back desperately. The horses neighed, and the knights were pinned to the battlefield floor.
“Gah!”
The giant axe was swung with one hand, and in the blink of an eye, numerous knights went flying into the air. A single attack from the minotaur caused the enemy to recoil. And then the spear-wielding monsters pushed in.
Shortly after, the attacks stopped, and a path opened up in front of them.
“Now! We’ve held the knights back! Charge…”
Berganda’s shout suddenly died in his throat.
The seemingly impenetrable wall of shields was gone.
And in its stead, were numerous humans in uniforms with long staves.
All at once, they began to chant.
‘Strike them down. Frozen Moon Arrow…’
—
On the screen, the magic effects burst and scattered. The electronic lights flashed in the dimly lit room, casting dark shadows across Yasuharu’s face.
‘It looks like the outcome is decided.’
As the god of wisdom said, the scene shown on the tablet was that of magic silver light, crushing goblin skulls and tearing off orc arms.
“Knights, you did good work. Please withdraw at once. Some of you have been wounded, so take them and wait in the safe area until the monsters start to flee.”
Without breaking formation, the magicians traded places with each other and continued to unleash their magic.
From what he could see, the knights on the right side had taken more damage than the left. It likely had to do with the capability of their commanders.
Yasuharu sighed and took a sip of water from the cup on his table.
He had not wanted to waste a single of his knights, but the monsters had higher stats than expected.
Also, that roar in the beginning had raised their morale.
‘Still, the damage will be kept quite low at this rate. The tercio as well. It seems to be going well.’
“From here on, we will operate around tercio instead of phalanx.”
‘Of course. Now that we have enough personnel to establish the magic division as a military branch, old tactics are unnecessary.”
The monster army was melting in the blink of an eye. And these were not even full fledged magicians.
Many of them were merely given this ability through the power of the divine rule. By acquiring the sorcerer skill, even farmers could use magic.
That being said, as they were low level, they could only use the magic a few times.
Normally, they would be considered useless in a battle.
But if there were thousands of them?
Like that, a small power can become huge.
