Kamigami – 72 Part 5

“Ogres! Will crash into them!”
“Udik! Don’t go too deep!”

Instead of replying, they roared once and attacked the spearmen with their toppas.

The overwhelming weight behind the muscles and giant wood was enough to crush the soldiers in their path.

It seemed like everything was being broken, trampled and swallowed up by the charge.

However, it did not last long.

“Our spirit soars like a solitary peak, unyielding as solid rock! We block, we brace, and our protection shines with radiant light!”

The spearmen braced themselves, planting the butt of their spears into the ground and angling the tips forward, their feet set wide as they endured the fierce assault. Behind them, the magicians layered their spells of protective magic.

“Garrrrraa! You little runts!”

The trolls and ogres continued their charge. Every time, the wall of spears shook, but it did not crumble.

“Alright! They have stopped moving! It’s time for us to go as well!”

On Berganda’s order, both wings of goblins rushed forward.

But even when they were close enough to reach the front line, the magicians stayed calm as they moved behind the spears.

In their place, the silver spearheads thrust forward. Instead of magic, the cold gleam of steel points assaulted the enemy.

“Watch the spear tips! Don’t meet them head-on. Knock them aside!”

The soldiers of the Hero’s army thrust their spears forward, while the monsters swung theirs to knock the spearheads aside. But compared to the shorter spears on the monster’s side, the enemies’ weapons were longer and looked far more unwieldy to handle.

And yet, without the slightest disorder or hesitation, the enemy drove them forward in precise, rhythmic motions, mercilessly seeking to pierce straight through the monsters before them.

“Shit…! Gah!”

A spear cut through a goblin’s throat before being retracted without hesitation.

“Damn it! Come a little closer!”

Though the monsters shouted and cursed while wielding their spears desperately, the enemy barely made a sound and their expressions remained cold.

“Don’t be reckless! Just hold your ground!”

Without going out to the frontline, the general used his size to give orders from the battlefield.

Still, he gripped his axe tightly as he felt the irritation of not being able to change things with his own hands.

“Don’t get frantic! This fight, has only just begun!”

The minotaur smiled.

“Aye, indeed.”

And then he roared with a voice that sounded like lightning cutting through the sky.

“This battle has only just begun! Advance! Let’s give this so-called Hero a lesson he won’t forget!”

The voice could be heard even from inside the tent that was far from the battlefield.

For a second, Yasuharu’s gaze moved away from the screen.

‘Don’t let them unsettle you. In the end, they’re nothing more than rabble who can only shout and rant on the battlefield.’

He listened to the Seer as he looked down at the tablet again. The formation stretched in a single horizontal line, looking as though it might be crushed at any moment by the spears. And yet, it did not waver in the slightest.

The ogre unit at the center, in particular, was holding firm. Under normal circumstances, the spearmen would be devoted solely to defense while the magicians behind them would wear the enemy down with supporting fire. However, they had now been forced into relying entirely on defensive magic.

“…Their defense and offense are both slightly boosted. I see…so it’s the sorcerers on the flanks.”

He touched his chin and studied the course of the battle. In such moments, he felt like he was staring at a gameboard and pondering the next move to make.

The cavalry units deployed on both wings were closing the distance with the mobile forces the enemy had sent to meet them.

On the enemy’s right wing were orcs mounted on boars, while on the left wing lizardmen wielded swords and short spears at their sides.

It was the boar units who attacked first.

Overwhelmed by the momentum, several cavalrymen were slammed by the charging boars, horses and riders alike were crushed beneath them. And in the blink of an eye, their HP gauges were completely drained, resulting in the loss of about three riders.
