Shinmai Boukensha – 101

Day 101: Freely adjustable.

Holy Era 6102, Month of the Seven Night Horses, 23rd day.

Weather: Sunny

Yesterday, we camped in the forest near the rocky area where the dungeon entrance was located.

We would not be able to rest properly once we entered the dungeon, so this would be our last satisfying rest for some time.

Well, we still had to watch for bandits, so it was not very relaxing.

After eating breakfast, we headed to the rocky area with the dungeon entrance.

We had to walk through the forest for some time, and then it opened up and we saw the rocky area, which was mostly just the side of a cliff.

Was this really the dungeon entrance? I didn’t even see any guards…

As I looked confused, Mr. Mavro walked on ahead.

I followed him frantically, and then saw that there was a large hole in the cliff!

It was just big enough for an adult man to go through.

Was this the entrance? I asked. Mr. Mavro nodded.

But why were there no guards here?

Without guards, Adventurers that were below D-Rank would be able to go inside.

As I wondered about this, Mr. Bran told me to look at the entrance carefully.

Upon hearing this, I peered inside of the hole and…

Woah… As soon as you entered, there was a steep drop. And it went down quite deep…

Also, the rock walls were quite smooth…

While you might be able to go down, it would be nearly impossible to climb back up…

The unexpected sight left me quite speechless, but Mr. Bran then explained it to me.

Guards were generally not posted near dungeon entrances like these, because they were so difficult to go in or out.

So even if they did go in through this entrance, they would still have to pass the proper guarded entrance in order to go out.

In other words, if a low-rank Adventurer ignored the rules and went inside, they would get caught in the end.

I see… So that’s why there were no guards here.

Now that that problem was solved, it was time to go inside.

We tied a rope to a nearby tree and then attached a weight to the other side and lowered it into the hole.

After easing it down carefully, we heard the sound of it hitting the ground…

So it finally arrived…with barely any rope left…

Well, time to go down! Is what I thought… But I had forgotten about the kelpy!

The hole wasn’t big enough for the kelpy, and there was a steep cliff on top of that.

Besides, the kelpy couldn’t climb down the rope!

I hadn’t thought about that at all… What should we do? Do I have to say goodbye when we just became friends…

It should be fine? Said Ms. Noa.

And then she approached the kelpy and began to whisper something into its ear.

Once she was finished, the kelpy nodded with satisfaction, and then its body began to glow.

A moment later, the light disappeared, and what remained was a miniature kelpy that could fit on my shoulder!

As I looked shocked, Ms. Noa explained that the size was freely adjustable.

I-I see…

Even the riding equipment had shrunk too… How did that work…? It was certainly strange.

Well, now we could take it with us into the dungeon! What a relief!

Ah, as for Mr. Mavro, it was decided that Ms. Noa would carry him.

Now, it was finally time to enter the dungeon!

Today’s earnings and expenses:

Nothing.

              ————————–

Balance: 4 silver, 1 copper

90 cat coins

(*’-‘*) The kelpy is so cute! Ah! I have to concentrate on the dungeon.
