Data.116 – Old Bowman, The Four Marks
“Still, there does seem to be a lot of special rules on this island…”
“Yes. But if it wasn’t the case, the whole island would eventually fall apart in the air.”
The hole that Anne had made with her iron ball began to close up, like a healing wound.
If holes like the ones she made didn’t close up, then the Ghost Float would eventually break apart.
Because there were more battles here than the normal field…
Powerful attacks on the ground would result in such damage to the terrain.
I would have to keep that in mind.
In fact, during the fight against the Slime Man, I had been thinking about using Stardust Arrow to run far away.
Had I done that…I would have been a laughing stock.
That power would have definitely created a big hole in the ground.
And I would have gone right through the island and towards the ground below.
“That being said, people sure stare a lot when I’m walking through the town with you, Mr. Kyuji… Is it always like this?”
“Well, it is these days. But it does seem a little worse than usual…”
Perhaps it was because while some were just looks of surprise and recognition, other looks were that of a hunter looking at prey…
Even if you couldn’t fight in the town, the fight had already begun…
However, I also thought that Anne was part of the reason that people were staring as well.
While she was on the plain side, she was still pretty, and the nun outfit suited her.
But then she wore this thick armor on top, and wielded a spiked iron ball.
She was also quite tall.
The same height as me, which made her even more intimidating.
She must have spent a lot of time creating her character.
And so that alone attracted attention.
Was this how she really looked? Or was it all made from scratch…?
In any case, my impression that she was full of secrets had not changed.
“But even if a lot of players become our enemies, we have nothing to worry about as long as you use your Miracle Effect, Mr. Kyuji!”
“No, it actually has severe restrictions… I won’t tell you the details, but I don’t think that I’ll be using it again today.”
“What!? Is that so!?”
Besides, I’m sure it wasn’t just mine. The other Miracle Effects were probably very powerful as well.
And they too would have restrictions put on them.
In the case of Southern Cross Ballista, I could only use it 3 times in one day.
Specifically, once between midnight and 8 AM, and then once between 8 and 4 PM, and again between 4 PM and midnight.
As I don’t play between midnight and 8 AM, I suppose it would be more accurate to say that I could only use it twice.
While I didn’t mean to be rude…I couldn’t waste it on these scrubs.
It was a trump card that I had to save for times when I really needed it.
Furthermore, activating it wasn’t a sure path to victory. And it was also difficult to aim.
As there was a stand that was fixed to the ground, as well as a pillar with joints connected to the launch device, there was a lot of freedom when it came to horizontal movement.
However, there were limitations in angles when it came to shooting up and down, as you had to pull the grips back.
It was not possible to aim right above you, and so it would be best to seal an enemy’s movement before firing.
And you had to fire once you activated it, or the effect would not end.
Of course, missing still counted as one shot.
So it would be more nerve-racking than any shooting I had done before.
That was the medal that Charin had given to me…
“So I won’t be able to rely on you the whole time then!”
“Sorry. But as I’m in a party, I can’t tell you about the effects of a trump card…”
“Not at all! Of course, you can’t! It’s not like I can prove that I’m not an enemy spy, so you must be careful!”
It wasn’t that I was suspicious, but I hadn’t even told the others in the guild.
There had to be an order to such things… Or was I overthinking it?
As I wondered about such things, we arrived at the fortune teller’s mansion, which was our destination.
Anne said that this was where we could accept the quest for unlocking fast travel.
As she had already heard everything, I went inside alone.
In the center of a room that was illuminated by eerie light, there was a crystal ball.
And on the other side, there was a small woman with a veil that covered everything but her eyes.
…A classical fortune teller.
“Come in. Take a seat.”
She had a calming voice.
She then placed her hand over the crystal ball, and it began to glow brightly.
“I can see it now.”
“That was quick…”
I couldn’t help but make a jab at the NPC.
So, about that quest…?
I wouldn’t have minded hearing my fortune in real life. But in a game…
“In the not distant future, in some place else, your experience and true ability will really be put to the test.”
“Do not be afraid. You are strong, and have allies. However, your enemy…is not someone you can beat if you stay the same as you are now.”
“And so I will give you this.”
I was given…a Grow Card!
An equippable card that grew if you fulfilled the requirements.
“Travel around the Ghost Float and stamp the four marks that are hidden throughout the forbidden areas onto this card. Once you are finished with this, return to me and you will awaken to a new power and be accepted by this land. That is your fortune. Now, you must pay the fee.”
She charges you…
Well, I had enough with me, so it was no problem.
Still, the fortune was rather convincing, in a way…which was a surprise.
But it was probably just part of the beginning of the quest, and she said the same thing to everyone…
I would keep that in mind.
Sometimes, casual remarks could be a hint.
However, she did say that it was somewhere else. So perhaps she wasn’t talking about my adventures on the Ghost Float…
I was with someone today.
And so I couldn’t get lost in thought in the same way that I did while solo.
Just as I was about to leave the mansion, I noticed that there was a sign hanging on the door.
It read, ‘View detailed rules in the help section.’
I see. So forgetful players like me won’t get lost.
I would definitely check it later.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“No, no. Not at all! So, did you get the card?”
“Yes. I’m supposed to get four marks…so it’s like a stamp rally.”
“Exactly! It’s a horror stamp rally where you go through all the scary spots on the island! You can go in any order that you want, but the Bone-ted Mansion is the closest from here.”
“No, ‘bone-ted’! That part is important!”
“It’s a giant abandoned mansion that is filled with bones and skeleton type monsters! Let’s go there tomorrow!”
“It’s too late today!”
It was already night on the field when I encountered the Ghost Airship, and ended up here by accident!
So it would also be night time in real life…
And so Anne and I agreed on a time to meet up tomorrow and then we logged out.
If you logged out in a town, then you could continue later from the same town.
That rule should remain the same, even in the Ghost Float.
And this place could also be explored during the morning.
Though the scenery itself was always night, I was glad that we could still go.
I would start playing in the morning, like I always do.
And since you could read the Help on the site after logging out, I would also have to remember to check it.
“Testing my experience and true ability…huh.”
The words of the NPC fortune teller…
I felt like I was always being tested, but I guess it wasn’t the case.
What could be waiting for me… I was scared.
But on the other hand, I could not help but feel excited about these prophetic words.
