Paintbrush Summoner – 37

Chapter 37 – We Don’t Need This Much

Totto was smiling with an innocent expression. He was clearly talking about the mountain of magic potions scattered through the room.

Menew and Ralph knew the price of such potions.

At the very least, it would be one silver per bottle.

Such things allowed people to feel the effects of magic, even if they could not use magic at all.

Aside from healing, they could be for antidotes, monster repellents, and undo paralysis and petrification.

There were different levels for healing potions, and the ones Menew had prepared were mid-rank. These cost five silvers per bottle. But one bottle was enough to fully heal the HP of the average Adventurer.

And so most people carried one mid-rank for emergencies, and then bought several low-rank potions.

“Totto. We can talk about whether or not we’ll take them later… But, what happened?”

“I made them with the materials we gathered yesterday. I thought that this would be enough to pay off my room, the tools…and also for the other trouble that I caused you…”

No matter how you looked at it, this was excessive. They had not even gathered this much materials.

It was clear that Totto wanted to make them happy, but Menew and Ralph were having trouble comprehending it.

“Alright, I understand. To be honest, I don’t know much about the different kinds of potions, but it seems like you are capable of making a living with this. How about we take them to the Merchants Guild tomorrow?”

Menew suggested, and Totto nodded in agreement.

“Alright, let’s clean this up and go and eat. Still, this is very impressive, Totto.”

“No, I wasn’t able to make that much…”

“It seems like more than enough. Especially since you’re only fourteen.”

In fact, that was quite an understatement. There was probably no one alive who could do the same thing.

Menew then took out his sketchbook and quickly drew three wooden boxes.

And then the three of them worked together to put the bottles away. Menew then put them in his magic pouch, and they were done.

Totto said that he would leave his tools on the floor in the same position, so that he could use them again tomorrow.

As Menew said that Totto could choose what they had for dinner, they went to a place that had delicious meat.

(He doesn’t look like someone who has eaten much meat…)

Ralph was a warrior, so he did not hold back. But Totto had been quite reserved before. And so he then ordered considerably more food than he had yesterday.

“Here is your mizari fowl stew and pork!”

The large plates were served, and the three of them ate white talking about the quest they had completed that day.

(So this is the food that Totto likes…”

Menew thought as he tasted it carefully.

As they may go out again, he wanted to be sure about what kind of food he gave to Totto.

The fowl was boiled in a sweet and spicy stew, and it was eaten with bread made of corn and flour.

As for the pork, it was in a sauce of ginger and spices, and became tastier the more you chewed it. Both dishes were incredibly delicious.

(Ah…this is quite fun…)

Really tasting the food. Eating while talking with someone. That alone made things much more enjoyable.

Perhaps the reason that Mr. Harnes of the people at the Adventurers Guild had fussed over him so much, was because they were trying to get him to understand this feeling.

And so as he made his way back to the inn, Menew promised that he would properly taste his food from now on.

The next day, he went to the Merchants Guild and mentioned Mr. Harnes. Apparently, he happened to be visiting.

As Totto still had materials left, he stayed in his atelier. And Ralph went out on a quest.

And so Menew met with Mr. Harnes, along with the branch manager.

“Ah, Mr. Menew! I am glad to see that you are well!”

“Mr. Harnes has told us so much about you. Are you here to sell items today?”

Menew was taken to the drawing room, where he was greeted by the portly Mr. Harnes, and a gentleman in a gray suit.

The gentleman was the manager of this town’s guild, and his name was Reed.

“Harnes. I’m glad to meet you again. Thank you for having me today, Mr. Reed.”

Menew then sat down on the sofa, and then he placed the wooden box on top of the table.

“I do not know what kind of potions these are, or how much they all cost. And there is so much… I want them appraised so that I can sell them.”

“This is very… It is a great amount indeed.”

“Where did you get these?”

Reed’s eyes widened as he opened the box.

Harnes was also stunned.

“With this amount, it will take three alchemists ten days.”

What?

Menew could not be blamed for this reaction.

And he could no longer tell them that a fourteen year old boy had made them in one day.

“The quality is also incredibly high. This will be even more effective and costly compared to normal potions.”

Harnes said as he appraised one of the bottles.

“Uh… I cannot tell you where they are from. But we should have ready stock as long as we are in this town.”

“Oh, I hope not. if you regularly picked enough herbs to make these, our forests will become completely bald.”

Reed said jokingly. Menew smiled politely.

Apparently, Menew wasn’t the only person who was far from normal. He felt a chill as he realized Totto’s capabilities.

After all, Totto had only picked a moderate amount. They did not take all of the herbs that had been growing there, and the basket was only about seven-tenths full.

“In-in any case, could you just appraise the ones I brought today?”

“Of course. As long as they were obtained legally, we are glad to have products of such great quality.”

“And I will take half of them. After all, I can guarantee that Mr. Menew would not bring in anything illegal!”

Where did that confidence come from? Menew wondered. But he was happy to be trusted.

(Still, it was legal, wasn’t it?)

An alchemist had made them with materials gathered from the forest.

There was no doubt about that. It should be fine.

However, until the process was finished, Menew could not stop thinking about it.

After all, before leaving the inn, Totto had said that he could make the same amount again that day.

It did not match the amount of materials, and the speed was also incredible. Perhaps he would have to have a talk with Totto about what was normal.

Thinking this, Menew drank his tea in the cozy room. He waited, and asked questions about potion making.

Unfortunately, he could not taste the tea at all.
