Seisan Mahoushi – 237

Chapter 237 – Negotiations Failed!?

While Joshua and the others were on their way back to Fendel by airship.

Yomotsu was in the grasslands west of Fendel.

This was because he had heard the howling. It was a type of signal that Kyuby and Yomotsu had agreed on.

I am going now. That was the message that Kyuby had sent to him.

(Kyuby is coming… So that means that he is cut off from the Lord Demon King.)

Of course, that meant fighting against the people of Fendel.

Yomotsu had already decided to live in Fendel with his family. And so he had no intention of going with Kyuby.

However, he did feel conflicted about it as well. The idea of abandoning Kyuby.

That was why Yomotsu decided to try and persuade him. And so he howled back, telling Kyuby his own location.

The walls and surrounding forest were protected by Fendel. That was why they had to go to the grasslands to talk. It was a place where the carefree Mopes might wander occasionally, and no one else.

Though, he was worried if Kyuby could even get through Fendel’s security network… Well, if anyone could do it, it would be him…

As he listened to the sounds of the wind and grass, a voice rang.

“Yomotsu…”
“So you came, Kyuby.”

Yomotsu turned around. There was a fox. It was Kyuby.

Kyuby said to Yomotsu.

“The Lord Demon King has given up on the plan.”
“I heard. And I am doing the same.”

Yomotsu said flatly.

On the other hand, Kyuby showed no signs of being surprised.

In fact, he even let out a chuckle.

Kyuby knew. From the beginning, he was the only one, who from the bottom of his heart, wished that the plan would succeed.

Yomotsu still had his family. And the Demon King had been anxious about changing the world so much.

He knew that he was alone.

Yomotsu too knew how Kyuby felt. And so he would not make any excuses. He would speak truthfully.

“I have decided to live in Fendel with my family. The Demon King has also decided to cooperate with Fendel.”
“…What is it about Fendel that has drawn you two in?”
“They accept everyone. Not just me. Anyone. It doesn’t matter if you are a demihuman or a monster… Of course, that would include you.”

Yomotsu approached Kyuby and pleaded with him.

“You and I were merely two people who were trying to accomplish the same thing. But now…we could live here as friends.”
“Friends…?”

Kyuby burst into laughter.

“Friends, you say!? I did not expect to hear such a word from you! How amusing!”

Kyuby laughed, but Yomotsu continued to look at him seriously.

Eventually, Kyuby stopped laughing and looked in the distance.

“To think that you have become this soft… No, I knew it. You always cared so much about your family and friends… I wished that I was like that.”
“Kyuby… Will you come with me?”

To these words, Kyuby was silent for some time.
But eventually, he shook his head.

“I cannot be like you. I do not have anyone who I wish to protect now. Yomotsu…”

Yomotsu saw Kyuby’s eyes flash red, and he quickly closed his own eyes.

Brain-washing magic. He meant to make him cooperate by force then.

Just then, the ground began to shake, and tree roots came out and shot towards Kyuby.

“Woah.”

Kyuby dodged them and moved away from Yomotsu.

“Move away! We will capture him!”

Shouted Ecleshia.

And then the other demihumans appeared and surrounded Kyuby.

Berdos the Minotaur had his axe, Monica the elf had her bow.

“…Do you remember us?”

Asked Berdos.

Kyuby had taken advantage of the fact that the Minotaurs hated humans, and controlled them. And like that, he had made them fight against the elves.

Kyuby chuckled.

“I have brainwashed so many people. I cannot remember them all.”

Monica glared at him.

“So, you do not even remember the people you have made to suffer.”
“Yes. I only remember if they were human or demihuman.”
“I will never be able to understand you… And so you must die here.”

Monica said as she readied her bow.

But then Yomotsu raised his voice.

“Wait! Kyuby… Your plan can go no further… I will end my own life here.”

Yomotsu said as he took out a knife he had been hiding. And then he pointed it at his own throat.

“Yo-Yomotsu. Please wait!”

Monica and the others tried to make him stop.

“No… If I die, the possibility of success will drop dramatically. Kyuby… Surely you understand how it will likely fail.”
“Are you trying to threaten me, Yomotsu?”
“No. I do not want you to commit any more crimes… I know what your goal is. And while I hate demihumans and humans as well, there are people like the ones in Fendel. Even you must understand, somewhere in your heart, how it would be wrong to hurt them.”

Make Kyuby give up after his own death. That was Yomotsu’s aim.

However, Kyuby replied.

“…Die if you wish then. But can you do it? As someone who has a family.”
“Do not underestimate me! …?”

Yomotsu thrust the knife towards his throat, but then his hand stopped at the last moment.

“…See? You cannot do it.”
“Kyuby, you…”

Kyuby turned away from Yomotsu and looked at the Fendel people.

“I will not be defeated by a pack of cowards… Your lot will be the first to die then…”

Kyubu said, and then he vanished. Monica had unleashed an arrow at him, but he got away just as it would have hit him.

“Tsk!”
“Don’t worry, Monica. Ents, search the ground and forests! Werewolves, you track his scent and… What!?”

Monica noticed several pillars of light coming out of the ground.

The pale blue lights suddenly started forming into massive humanoid shapes.

The demihumans realized that they were now surrounded by them. They kept appearing and increasing in number.

Yomotsu raised his voice.

“Do not be afraid! They are just spirits. They are slow, and you can defeat them with one hit of your weapons! But they will continue to appear without limit unless we find Kyuby… So we must find him as soon as possible.”

Everyone nodded at this.

And so began the battle between Fendel and Kyuby’s spirits.

It was at that point, that the airship carrying Joshua and the others came into view.
