Seisan Mahoushi – 238

Chapter 238 – A Chaotic Battle!

“That light…is it!”

Pale lights were appearing in the area around Fendel village.

Iria said with a calm expression.

“Everyone is already prepared to fight.”
“Aye. They are not likely to be defeated by an enemy like that.”

Mette was also confident.

Melk looked at a certain place and replied.

“Ecleshia and the others are surrounded.”
“Berdos and Monica…and Yomotsu is there as well. Something must have happened for them to gather over there.”

As Melk and Asuha said, Ecleshia and the others were away from the village and surrounded. It seemed like they were already fighting.

As for Fendel and the forest, they were also unleashing arrows and magic at the spirits. However, the walls and trees kept them safe.

“We should unite with Ecleshia first then.”

I said, and the others nodded and prepared to fight.

“Things will get rough, so be careful, everyone.”

I said, and then the airship charged into the horde of spirits.

However, once we were close to the ground, Iria and Mette jumped off the airship and began to attack the spirits around them.

And then the airship landed without being attacked, and I stored it in magic workshop.

“Alright, let’s go.”
“I shall clear the way!”

Asuha used wind magic to push away the spirits, opening a path to Ecleshia and the others.

In the meantime, we met up with Ecleshia.

“Ecleshia! What happened!?”
“Joshua! I’m sorry… Kyuby got away.”

Said Ecleshia, as she used the roots of trees to fight. And then Yomotsu opened his mouth.

“It is my fault…I stopped the attack.”

He said, looking more serious than ever.

“No…I am the one who missed. It is not your fault, Mr. Yomotsu.”

Monica said as she unleashed her arrows, but Yomotsu shook his head.

They all seemed conflicted about Kyuby… They must have tried to persuade him, but failed.

Berdos swung his battle axe and said,

“There is no point in regretting what has already passed! We must focus on finding him now!”

I nodded.

“Does anyone know where he went?”
“South…the scent continued to the south.”

Melk said while looking at the grasslands that stretched out to the south.

“The south… Hmm?”

While I followed the magic energy, I sensed a great amount of it to the south. And it was getting bigger…

Did he mean to use some large-scale magic?

“I can sense it… Let’s hurry.”

After that, with spirits flying in our wake, we charged southward.

From the ramparts, the demihumans also stopped the enemy advance through attacking with bows, crossbows and other weapons.

However, their priority was to stop the swarm getting in.

And we were unable to move south quickly, due to the sheer number of spirits in front of us.

It was then that a voice rose from the ramparts.

“Someone is coming… It is…the Grank mercenaries!”

And then I turned to the northwest, and saw shadows jumping out from the forest.

Tigerfolk riding on camels… And they were being led by Beyron and Neia.

Mette looked at them with an expression of surprise.

“Why are they…”

Monica answered.

“The tigerfolk who joined Fendel had sent word to those employed in Toria, about the gate.”
“Besides, they had already meant to come to see how things were in the village.”

Ecleshia added.

And like that, the Grank mercenaries cut down and trampled over the spirits.

Eventually, emerging from the midst of the army, Beyron and Neia raced toward us on their camels.

Beyron stopped near us, and while slashing at the spirits, turned to face me.

“So, the day has finally come where I can repay the debt.”

Beyron said with a laugh, and Neia said with exasperation,

“Just be honest and say that you heard the noise and were worried…”
“Shu-shut up. We only came because Riise wouldn’t stop talking about wanting to eat bread made of Grank wheat!”
“Well, you wanted to eat it too, father… Joshua, leave this to us. We have friends in the village. And so we will not allow the enemy to get close. It’s not like I’m doing it for you or anything…”

Neia said with a red face. Perhaps she had remembered what happened before I left the capital. And while my memories were hazy, I felt like I knew why she was embarrassed.

Regardless, I was happy that they, the Grank mercenaries, had come to help.

“…Thank you. Please lend us your help.”

I said, and the two nodded with satisfaction, and then ran off towards Fendel.

Beyron raised his voice.

“They cannot scale the walls! Just be careful that you do not get hit by the attacks! Infantry units, focus on defending the gates! Cavalry units, join me as we wreak havoc!”

The Grank mercenaries raised their voices in reply.

I suppose it did have to do with them having comrades in the village. Still, I was happy that they were willing to fight for Fendel.

Iria then said,

“Let us leave it to them, and hurry on.”
“Aye.”

And so we continued to make our way to the south.

Thanks to the village and the Grank mercenaries, there were fewer spirits targeting us now, and it was easier to advance.

However, Melk suddenly stopped.

“Everyone, wait. A different scent is approaching.”
“This earth tremble… Could it be…!?”

Ecleshia lowered her gaze to the ground and called to everyone.

“The killer worms we fought previously… But not only that… A king bug!”

The monsters we had once fought in Noir village to the north, where the Nowa tribe lived.

Killer worms were like earth worms that were the size of people. While the king bug resembled a pill bug, they were the size of a castle.

Kyuby had used them to attack the foxfolk settlement, but…it seemed like he had even more of them ready to fight.

Had they come from the sky or forest, I would have been able to tell. But it took longer for me to detect things that were deep in the ground.

The monsters soon appeared, pushing their way through the spirits.

And after scanning their surroundings, they noticed us and charged.

“Here they come! …We already know how to fight them. With this bomb.”
“Sir Joshua. I will take it.”
“Huh?”

Iria took the bomb from me, and then she ran towards the king bug while wielding her sword.

“Iria, how reckless…!?”

Iria lept high into the air, and after slashing the king bug’s head open, she threw the bomb inside.

And without stopping, she rushed forward, slashing and slicing her way through the horde of death worms…

A moment later, there was a deafening explosion.

The king bug’s head burned as it collapsed

Iria was able to defeat it more quickly than last time, and with a smaller explosion.

Thanks to the explosion being small, none of us were injured.

Mette’s voice quivered.

“Even for our Princess Iria…that was amazing…”

Iria was at such a point when it came to combat, that there seemed to be no hope of anyone catching up with her.

I myself had never seen a stronger warrior.

It seemed that no matter what trick Kyuby had up his sleeve, he would not be able to stop us now.

“Impressive! But I won’t fall behind!”

Berdos said as he charged into the horde of death worms.

We followed after him and continued our journey south.
