Chapter 246 – In Search of a Cool Place!

“Well, be careful then!”

We were at the riverside docks in Fendel.
On the pier, the adult demihumans were waving their hands as the boat went along the river.

On the deck, the children waved back. They were in bathing suits and carried swimming rings and fans.

“White Sand Island has become very popular.”
“Well, you can swim more freely than in the river, and it is safe… Also, it is so hot these days.”

Answered Iria next to me.

A month had now passed since I built the swimming area on the beach.
We were now in the middle of summer, and the last few days had been scorching hot.

Even I found myself using wind magic to cool down.

“In the village, everyone always gathers around the fans…”
“And ice cream is very popular. But the Mopes are so affected by the heat, that they do not yield as much milk… And so now Melk is making shaved ice instead.”

Recently, people have started to eat shaved ice topped with honey.

“We will have to think of other ways of dealing with the heat…”

I muttered, and Iria chuckled.

“Please stop, Sir Joshua. Before you came, we could do nothing but hide in the shade. Compared to that, the current Fendel is like heaven. You have already done enough.”
“I see… Well, being hot is normal for the summer… But still…it’s almost too hot.”
“In any case, let us rest in the shade. And I will massage you again.”
“You don’t need to…”
“Don’t be modest!”

And so Iria pulled me by the hand as we walked to the village.

She had become quite bold recently…

Just then, a giant rolled up sheep that was resting under a tree caught my eye. It was Celes the Mope.

Celes then stretched out like she was a slime.

“Baaah! How it is… But I want to run around… Ouch!”
“Celes, are you alright?”

I sent some magic wind towards the weakened Celes.

“Thank you, Sir Joshua… I’m fine now. Fendel is comfortable for relaxing like this. The problem is…”
“That you overheat as soon as you start running.”

Celes nodded.

“My wool is sheared, but I still get hot quickly… And while swimming is nice, I would still rather walk and run.”

Mopes were always running around.

“I wish there was something that I could do, but… Ah, I know.”

I noticed the mountains in the distance.

“Surely it is cool on top of the mountain? And there are sheep raised on mountains.”
“Baah! Now that you mention it, high places are cool! It sounds quite comfortable, baah!”
“Apparently, more humans are coming from the south to the mountain palace… Perhaps it would be a good idea to pay a visit to the mountain where Asuha lives. It has been a while since we last went there.”

There was a tall mountain to the southwest of Fendel. There was a hot spring at the foot of the mountain, and on the top, there was the home of Asuha and the Tengus.

And then Iria answered.

“Yes, we have not gone there since we fought that dragon.”
“Aye. I don’t know how much development has continued with the mountains, but I could ask them if they need anything. The Tengus are reserved, and rarely ask for any favors.”

Had the golems carried us, it would have taken an hour to reach the top, if we started at the foot of the mountain. And if we walked, it would have been five to six hours.

However, the Tengus could fly, and so they could go back and forth in just ten minutes. Perhaps that was why they were satisfied with just using Fendel’s facilities.

“Well, perhaps we can go and think of it as taking a walk. Besides, I want to try and make something I made in the city.”

Iria looked puzzled.

“What did you make?”
“Yes. There may be a way to make transportation even easier than airships.”

I said, and then Iria seemed to remember something.

“That ropeway we used to cross the river!”
“Aye. I am going to make a more durable one. And I suppose I should build a road as well.”

I said, and Iria laughed with amusement.

“Hehe. You sure do like to create things, Sir Joshua.”

Celes also smiled and nodded.

“Baah. I could learn something from you. Sir Joshua looks so enthusiastic now.”
“I’m not… Did I look like that?”

Iria and Celes nodded immediately.

On the following day, we headed towards the mountain where Asuha and the Tengus lived.
