Cave King – 237

Chapter 237 – Our Path Was Blocked!

The tunnel suddenly collapsed.

Something had crashed in front of us. It had come from above at a great speed.

The ground shook under our feet, and the strong wind made the crumbling rocks fly towards us like bullets.

My magic barrier stopped the rain of rubble.

“Tsk… Is everyone alright!?”

I looked around as it came down on us.

Judging from the magic energy, no one had fallen.
However, I could tell that there was now someone else there. Someone very powerful, who had not been there before.

The person who had destroyed the tunnel.

As the dust started to settle, the figure came into view.

A body that was three times larger than a carriage. With four thick legs like an elephant…and on its head and back, were giant wings of rainbow colors.

Too large for a Lindwurm…

Also, how long had it been since I last saw someone with this much magic energy?

Of course, it was not as much as a Leviathan or Elto.

But its speed and toughness definitely put it amongst the strongest creatures that I had faced.

Even Remlik looked anxious, and there was sweat pouring from his forehead.

This person was not here to talk.
And the greeting was too violent.
There was clear hostility emanating from it.

With sword in hand, Remlik opened his mouth.

“Brother… This was all my doing. I paid them to come and free me.”

Remlik’s brother. In other words, it was Prince Ruda.

Ruda opened his big mouth and said,

“Lies. It would be one thing if you were trying to stop me. But you would not need the help of weaklings just to escape.”

Indeed.
I doubted Arder and the others could stop Remlik.

“In other words, you are not interested in the fact that I escaped. In that case…”

Remlik tried to walk past his brother, but Ruda’s giant wings stopped him.

Ruda glared at Remlik.

“As always, you are going to try and stop the invasion, aren’t you? To protect those weak demihumans.”

As always, huh?

In other words, Remlik had always been against it.
It was clear that the brothers did not get along.

Remlik then answered.

“I promise to not get involved. Is that what you want?”
“Who would believe you? I might believe…if you kill these people with you.”
“You are too fond of blood, brother. Why are you incapable of negotiating?”
“Our duty…in order to beat the forces of darkness, is to continue to expand. The weak will have a chance of survival, if they are subjugated by us. There is no point in negotiating.”

He had no intention of listening.

Remlik looked exasperated.

And as expected, Erevan would not keep quiet.

“Hey, hey. You talk like you’re being magnanimous. But your very premise is wrong. We ain’t weak.”
“Demihuman… No, you…”
“Who cares about what we are? I am stronger than you. That is all.”

Erevan said with annoyance.

Fule said,

“Hey, father. I said no fight…”
“Fule. It’s not like I want to settle this here. But…do you really think we can get away from him without a fight?”

As Erevan said, they could not just leave peacefully.

With Teleportation Stones, they had to throw one. And the distance was limited.

But he could fly and use magic.
There would be no safe way to escape.

On top of that, Remlik’s brother could likely graph the movement of magic energy.
That was why he was able to stop us.
And so any concealing magic would not work.

Ruda suddenly laughed.

“That makes things simple. You may not be strong, but you are wise.”
“Aye, high and mighty people like you have to be punched once in order to understand.”

Erevan really was quick to fight.

But as he said, there were times when you had to fight.
Especially with dealing with someone like Ruda, who loved to fight.

That being said, if I went all out, I might kill him by accident.
And then Vader would hold a grudge over Sheorl.
I did not want that to happen.

Of course, there was also a possibility that we couldn’t defeat him any other way.

In any case, our goal now was to neutralize him and retreat.
That was the only way to escape safely.

Everyone turned towards me.

And so I nodded in reply.

Only Remlik kept his eyes on Ruda.

In any case, I had to hurry and… No, it was too late.

Before I knew it, several other Lindwurms were closing in.
They must be Ruda’s subordinates.

And then Remlik turned to Erevan.

“Sorry, but I will deal with my brother. Ruda, there is no need to harm the others.”
“Hey, hey. You don’t speak for me. You two can finish your family squabble at home.”
“If I am defeated, then you can fight him… Until then, he is mine.”

Ruda looked like he did not care.

Erevan clicked his tongue with annoyance.

“Well, fine then… But if you take too long, I might join in.”
“Of course. In any case, everyone, please look after yourself.”

Remlik said as he gripped his sword tightly.

“…After all, my brother is the strongest warrior in Vader.”

He muttered, and then began to transform into a dragon.

At the same time, Ruda’s subordinates started to attack us.

And like that, we were forced to fight the prince.
