Chapter 244 – We Decided to Wait!
And so we returned to the Leorl mountains.
Currently, I was with Remlik near the entrance to the mines.
Here, we gazed at the wagons of supplies, which had been carried by hundreds of demihumans.
“Amazing! There is so much!!”
Shia said excitedly while wagging her fluffy tail.
These were the supplies taken from the governor’s storage room.
Though, most of it had belonged to the demihumans originally.
Remlik also looked impressed.
“A small farm area was prepared near the mountains. And so we should have enough food for several months.”
“If we can last that long, Ruda and the viceroy may agree to negotiate.”
I nodded at Remlik’s words.
“Indeed. However, if it is only food, they will underestimate us.”
“In other words…the demihumans should be armed as well.”
“Yes. Merely stopping the battle is not enough. In order for the demihumans to protect their lives, they should have power.”
But giving out weapons could lead to clashes.
However, the current state was so one-sided. So there was no choice but to arm the demihumans as well.
Besides, Remlik would surely be able to control them.
“I will not object. I have a lot of friends who are skilled. If you wish, I could ask them to train the others.”
“Thank you. Well, the demihumans are quite strong and skilled too. I think they could be intimidating enough, just by their appearance.”
“If that’s the case, then I will have some iron armor made.”
I said while looking at Mappa, who was busily swinging his hammer as always.
A small workshop had been set up, and he was crafting great quantities of tools and Mado Armor with the help of his apprentices.
“I cannot thank you enough… That being said, the urgent matter is now settled.”
“All we have to do is wait for them to move. But the Governor would be confused, and Ruda will take a few days to recover. But they should show some movement soon.”
“Aye. But there are not many things my brother can do now. Our plan should succeed… No, it definitely will.”
Remlik declared.
However, he sounded like he was trying to convince himself…
If he was anxious, I wanted to know now.
“Remlik. Is there something that makes you uncertain? Does Ruda have some other trump card?”
“I do not think so. He has shown all of his power already. And even if he has something hidden, it is likely just some potion or weapon that would buy him a little time at best. He cannot beat us. Of course, he understands that as well. I think he will try and take hostages, but that will be difficult now.”
“So, why are you anxious?”
“Well…it is really unlikely.”
“But it is possible then. We should be prepared, even if there is only a small chance. Please tell me.”
I said. Remlik was silent for some time.
Eventually, he seemed to make up his mind, and nodded deeply.
“…It’s only a possibility. But the other royals… They might come to aid my brother.”
“Is Ruda on good terms with them?”
“Terms… We are not like any close, ordinary family. But compared to other families…”
“Royal families tend to compete. As they struggle to inherit the throne… I suppose?”
Remlik nodded.
“I suppose it is like that everywhere.”
“It is easy enough to imagine. But if that’s the case, will they really want to help Ruda? Some princes might want him to feel indebted, but isn’t considered to be the greatest Vader warrior?”
“If anything, his failures will make them happy… That would be normal. Well, it is true that most of them are hoping for him to be shamed. However…”
“There are those who do not. Other royals, who are not his brothers?”
“My uncles and cousins just follow the person who brings them profit. No one in the royal family has a true love for the other.”
“In that case, it doesn’t sound like anyone would help Ruda.”
Remlik was silent for a moment and then shook his head.
“…Yes. And so it’s fine.”
“It doesn’t sound like it… Is there another possibility then?”
If there was just one…
“The king… Could the king come here directly?”
I said. This time, Remlik did not shake his head or nod.
He looked down with a conflicted expression.
I did not know anything about this Vader king, but Remlik seemed to think there was a possibility that he would come here.
Indeed, normally, it would be off for him to come all the way out into these frontier lands.
It would have to be an especially large battle, or due to some great event that would affect the kingdom’s fate.
Would this struggle in Langs be considered important enough?
Well… Ruda was a warrior that represented the country. So we could be seen as a big enough threat.
We had not thought about that possibility.
The Vader king might have sensed this sudden change.
So it was definitely possible…
“…Very well. We must prepare for the king’s arrival then. So that we can deal with him. And the other princes.”
“I don’t think it is likely…but I’m glad that you said that.”
“Don’t mention it. Besides, and I hope I don’t sound too rude, but Ruda is the strongest warrior in this kingdom, yes? Then there is no else here who is that strong.”
“Aye. He is our greatest warrior. However, when it comes to magic, my father is considered the best. Not just here, but the whole continent.”
“Considered?”
“Well, most people have not really seen him use magic.”
“So it could be a bluff to strengthen his authority then.”
Remlik nodded.
“Aye. There are so many uncertainties… And so I did not want to worry you about it.”
“Thank you. But it would have been best for you to tell me sooner. After all, there are kings who cross the seas in order to secretly visit a remote island…”
“There is such a king…? The world really is a big place.”
Remlik said with a smile.
“…Yes, I probably should have told you sooner. But now that I told you, I do feel better.”
“That’s good. But I feel the opposite. I am starting to worry a little.”
I said, and Remlik chuckled.
“I won’t burden you anymore then. Because what I said now was the thing that troubled me the most.”
“I see. Well, that’s a relief. In that case…we should prepare for a possible battle with the Vader king. I feel bad that you may face your father in such a way.”
“Don’t be. I am prepared to face him if he comes here. Even if it means battle.”
Remlik answered firmly.
I was glad to see that he was determined.
Just like with the leviathan, if we all worked together, there was no enemy we couldn’t defeat.
…The Vader king. We would not run or hide. If he wants to come, then let him come.
Hm, not cool, author seems to be going away from the first version of the story, where MC was decent, instead of a scaredy lil fool always at the whims of others, be it allies, fake allies, or baddies. Something’s wrong with Japan is so many novels from there tend to have doormat MCs.
Thanks for the chapter! Awesome translation! May God bless you!
This is one of the novels that have very slow upload rate. But then again., according to NU stat. We’re only 4 chapters behind the COO which is nice. Damn it author!!! Increase the chapter release rate!!!
