Chapter 91 – Time To Ask Seker
“Good evening, Mr. Menew.”
As things had finally calmed down, Menew went to continue his conversation with Seker.
His consciousness would return if the others awakened him, and since they were in the same tent, his body should be safe.
“Do you remember where we stopped last time?”
Uhh, Menew touched his chin and thought for a moment.
“This god of chaos called Apep got a human body, and is trying to destroy order. But the gods can’t do anything about it?”
“That is correct. …As I said before, that world is too far away from us. After all, the roots of the sky tree grow there.”
What did the sky tree have to do with it?
Menew was puzzled. Seker detected this and continued.
“This tree that you call the sky tree… It is the order of that world… It creates the elements and manages all life. But the sky tree is just one of many. And through it, he can destroy the order of other worlds as well… I cannot interfere, because of the roots of the sky tree.”
Menew folded his arms and thought about this.
“In other words… Apep is trying to kill the sky tree, and that must be stopped?”
“Yes. And we gods cannot do it. Our authority is restricted, and we cannot reach that far.”
Seker bowed his head as he requested that Menew do something, and Menew had to stop him frantically.
“Ple-please stop that! It’s my fault for living in that way and having to be reincarnated!”
Indeed. Had he had a proper death, there would have been no thought of reincarnation.
And Menew would not have been in this position.
So in a way, Menew saw this as his own problem.
“I still don’t know what this book of death or whatever is, but I want to draw that world.”
Like Kanon.
Everything that world was filled with. He wanted to draw it with his own hand.
“And so…leave it to me. I know, someone really strong joined us today. And we’re sure to meet other strong and interesting creatures. And so I want to draw them and go leisurely, but… Well, think of us as being on a fishing boat. But I’ll do it.”
It was not a speed boat or a rowboat, but he could still promise that they would be moving forward.
Seker understood the meaning and laughed.
“Yes, thank you. …I know, Mr. Menew. It can be after you finish what you want to do, but please pay a visit to a town called Ramstelis.”
But before Menew could promise to do this, his consciousness was pulled away rapidly.
And before he knew it, he was back in the tent.
The others were still sleeping, but Menew alone had woken up for some reason.
(…A singing voice?)
It was quite beautiful.
A layered voice that shook the soul and made his eyes almost well up with tears.
High-pitched, like a bell, and low, so as to shake the earth. He didn’t understand the meaning of the words, but they bore a strong sadness.
It was coming from outside of the tent.
And so Menew put on a robe and picked up his staff as he went outside. He also took his pouch, just in case.
As he followed the voices, he saw two figures in the rocky area.
But as he got closer, he realized that it was just one figure.
The bottom half was like a fish, with the torso splitting into two, with one side singing low and the other high. They wore beautiful accessories, likely salvaged from wrecked ships. However, there were no others around.
The beautiful siren was likely…Singing Princess Yaya.
Menew quietly took out the search instructions.
Apparently, both day and night, she had put boats to sleep. And while she put them to sleep, she did not attack them. However, the result was the same, if they slept during bad weather.
And because hearing the song had such an effect, no one was able to hunt her. However, Menew had resistance to such effects.
So he listened to the beautiful voices and thought.
(…Just like Kazuya Yamamoto.)
Anomaly.
The other sirens likely just had one torso.
They did not sing with two beautiful voices.
Their song would not move the soul so strongly.
(And so…that’s probably why I met them after speaking with Seker.)
Once the song stopped, Menew clapped his hands.
Then he smiled at the four eyes that looked at him in surprise.
“That sounded beautiful. I wish I could listen to it longer. …So please. Won’t you join me as a friend?”
Menew did not add that he thought that they were alike.
However, the feeling seemed to be conveyed.
The two melodies continued again.
She then jumped off of the rocks and into the sea. A moment later, she swam up to the beach where Menew was standing.
Menew raised his staff and chanted.
“Here, I decree that Singing Princess Yaya shall be Menew’s beast summon.”
And he gently tapped the two heads with his staff.
“I will call you when I wish to hear your song. In the meantime, do not sing while there are ships around. Can you do that?”
Yaya laughed happily, and the two pairs of arms folded, and the heads nodded.
She had been driven away from the others of her kind, and there was no one who could hear her, as her rare voice put people to sleep.
What loneliness that must have been.
“In any case, I would like to hear a little more. Please.”
Menew said as he sat down. And the two beautiful voices began to sing again.
The moon was still high in the sky. Surely it was alright to listen to the joyous song for a little longer.
Thanks for all you’re wonderful work and for this chapter!
