Chapter 93 – Flying Damagarga

The cry echoed from the top of a mountain that was in the center of the island.

As they watched from between the cracks of the jungle trees, they eventually saw a frog-like silhouette.

It was still quite far away. If the silhouette was visible, it must be very large indeed.

The frog croaked, and then jumped down from the mountain.

Perhaps flew was a better word. When it landed, the impact was so strong that it even shook the ground under Menew’s feet.

With heavy footsteps, it came closer. And then it jumped again. This time, it landed while knocking down the trees in front of Menew.

(It’s huge…)

And yet it was fast.

The trees were about the same height as a two-story building, and yet its head still stuck out from them. A large black toad.

“Guaaaah!!”

It croaked at them. And then it began to thrash around wildly, breaking the trees around it.

“There seems to be something wrong with it.”

“Aye. As if it’s going wild and trying to escape something. Not attacking us…”

Ralph spoke calmly while carrying Mofusen and Totto and easily dodging the Damagarga.

Torum and Falis also moved back and watched the scene from the trees.

Menew used the Search enchant on his eyes and observed the Damagarga.

And then it appeared. ‘Parasite.’

“Mofusen!”

He said, and then he added Enchant to Mofusen’s eyes as well. He was good with barrier treatment and presence detection. And so Menew felt it would be faster to just show him.

“Oh, dear. In spite of being so big, it’s being eaten away. Menew, could you get it to stop moving?”

He could not treat it while it moved so much.

In that case… Menew gave the humans the mystery masks, and then made a connection to Torum and Falis.

Torum and Falis were also surprised at how sudden it was, but after learning Menew’s thoughts, they calmed down. And like that, they maintained their distance from the Damagarga.

As for Ralph and the others, this was the second one of the day, so they were quick to grasp the situation. And so they quickly put on the masks, and then Menew held up his staff.

“I summon, Yaya!”

A sphere of water appeared in front of the Damagarga, and then the beautiful siren emerged.

“Make the Damagarga fall asleep!”

Yaya nodded, and began to sing a lullaby to the trashing Damagarga.

No matter how loud the shouting was, as it was in a different pitch, it did not obstruct her singing.

Besides, as singing was all that she did, she did not like the idea of losing to someone else’s clamorous voice.

Eventually, the gentle lullaby swayed and washed over the Damagarga until it lay heavily down on the ground. Presumably, the parasite within had also fallen asleep.

And so Mofusen approached the Damagarga’s stomach.

He searched for the parasite and cast a barrier. And then he manipulated the barriers so that it was spat out from the Damagarga’s mouth.

It was about as thick as Menew’s arm, and three meters long. The pale parasite twitched on the ground. It must be made about losing its host.

“…This cannot be eaten…”

“I’ll let you eat something proper!”

Menew shouted over Totto. It was unclean and improper to say the least. He must be educated in such things.

“Torum. Burn it.”

Torum then used his legs which were enveloped in flames, and stomped on the parasite’s head, burning its body with it.

…As it was rather large, the smell of it roasting was rather appetizing. And everyone there had to look away awkwardly.

After that, the Damagarga was woken up. He had returned to his more quiet nature. It was clear that the pain had made him forget himself.

Menew patted him on the nose.

“Hey, if things stay like this, someone will come in order to hunt you down. What about submitting to me?”

“Gueggo!”

Menew understood that he was agreeing.

And so he raised his staff and chanted.

“I hereby declare that the flying Damagarga is now the summon beast of Menew.”

Now, he had finished all of the contracts on this island.

Menew petted the Damagarga’s throat, and he croaked happily. It seemed that he liked people.

It was then that Menew remembered had Falis’s territory had been ravaged, and so he asked Falis what to do. He could return it to its previous state if he wanted to.

It beat its wings and replied. And so Mr. Wal translated.

“He says it’s fine like this. Some plants become stronger after being stepped on.”

Menew was impressed by this attitude. He then realized that Falis looked embarrassed, as they were still connected.

Hmm…? And then Mr. Wal explained.

“Falis is the cave mantis queen.”

“Oh, so she is female…”

He seemed to be attracting a lot of bugs recently.

After that, he petted Falis and Torum, and praised Yaya, who had made the biggest contribution.

“You did very well.”

Menew said, and Yaya was so happy that she nearly broke out into song. And so Menew had to stop her.

He was not connected to the Damagarga yet. If it fell asleep again, it could cause a lot of damage.

“Ah, that’s right. Ralph, you should return to the camp with the others.”

“What are you going to do?”

Menew laughed and took out his sketchbook and brush.

“Draw.”

Hot Legs Torum, Song Princess Yaya, Shield Shell Falis, and Flying Damagarga. He spread open the sketch book and used two pages to draw them.

Torum was in a dynamic kick of fire.

Yaya was singing beautifully, with patterns made of water.

Falis was drawn with many plants, and looked like a queen.

Damagarga walked through the mountains leisurely.

He then wrote their names below the pictures, and from the monsters, something like a mass of magic energy emerged and went into the art.

Like the time with Kanon, they would remain in the book and not fade away.

“Yes. It turned out well.”

He showed them the book, and they peered at it curiously.

‘You are very skilled, master.’

Hmm?

‘You drew us well.’

‘I am very moved.’

Huh??

‘As a queen, I feel proud.’

‘I promise to be useful to you.’

He could hear something.

Apparently, he was now able to understand what they were saying.

Menew brought up his status, and saw that he was now level 30. Also, there was a new skill, ‘Language Understanding.’

“…Well, that’s nice. It would be nice to get to know you all.”

Menew let out a sigh and  then smiled at his new friends.
