Paintbrush Summoner – 99

Chapter 99 – Is this really a wagon journey?

Kara thought. This is too comfortable.

First, when they stopped to rest that day, the passengers had already prepared ingredients, and they quickly built a stove and cooked it for lunch.

And it wasn’t simple preserved food.

There was fried lizard meat and vegetables sandwiched with bread, and vegetable soup as well.

She had assumed that he had some kind of ability related to space, but if he was storing fresh food, then it could not be any ordinary item pouch. It would be a more advanced ability called Item Inventory.

Also, she wondered why there was a child with them. But this child was using water magic for cooking and cleaning.

Normally, it was not worth using magic for that. And yet he did it as if it was nothing.

After they rested, they continued the journey for a little longer, until the sun started to set. And so she stopped near a tree and suggested that they set up camp for the night. Again, they surprised her.

They did seem to be used to travel, but the tents were pitched in no time.

As for Kara, she was allowed to sit on a cushion near the fire.

After dinner, which was once again, quite impressive, they served some kind of white sweets, which were pierced with branches and roasted over the fire. Ralph looked disgusted at first, but they were delicious. Sweet and fluffy.

Once the desert was finished, Menew called Kara to the wagon.

He waved his staff and something like a small rain cloud appeared. Inside, there was a small burning fire.

He moved it over to the tub, and steaming hot water rained into it.

“It will stop when you tell it to. Ah, also this…”

He gave her some soap that was of unbelievably high quality and smelled amazing.

“Tell me when you are done. Your pajamas are inside of that chest.”

Wasn’t he supposed to be a summoner?

Kara just went with the flow and took a hot bath, in spite of being in the middle of traveling, and washed her body and hair.

Apparently, the men would wash up in the morning. It was good that they cared about cleanliness, but there was no water nearby. So it would likely be magic water again.

(Am I really washing my hair with water inside of a wagon…)

The smell of soap filled the area.

And when she said ‘stop,’ the magic water really did stop.

She was the driver, but felt like a customer. This was likely more comfortable than when nobles traveled.

She washed her clothes and dried herself. Then she changed into the pajamas in the chest.

When she went back out, Menew was waiting with his staff.

It was time for the drying magic he had once used on Ralph.

“You might catch a cold if your hair is wet. Do you have a comb?”

“Ye-yes, I do.”

She took it out frantically as her hair was dried.

“Yes, yes. Do you want more tea? Or will you go to sleep?”

“Uh, sleep. Yes. Good night.”

“Good night.”

When she went back to the wagon, the shower magic had disappeared.

(This is all very comfortable, but…)

While lying in the soft bed, Kara put a hand to her forehead.

(The surprise is also tiring…)

Would she ever get used to it?

She wondered as she drifted off to sleep.

“She’s asleep.”

“Indeed.”

Ralph and Mofusen.

They had been careful to keep their voices hushed around her.

“You bloody fool! It’s because you kept using your powers without restraint!”

Mofusen shouted quietly, which was quite a feat. Ralph grabbed Menew by the collar.

“You did far too much, fool. And what was with that food…”

As they had not said anything, Menew had just assumed it was fine, and continued on.

“Bu-but, she’s the driver… Also, I thought she should be comfortable…”

“That doesn’t mean you have to make a whole room! That is completely abnormal!”

Mofusen was so angry that his teeth went flying out of his mouth.

“Bu-but, we did ask for someone who wouldn’t spread rumors…”

“That doesn’t mean you have to show her everything!”

“Yes, I’m sorry.”

Manifestation of All Things, Magic Creation, the seven magic attributes and spatial magic. He had shown all of that and more.

After rebuking Menew for his recklessness,  they returned to the tents and went to sleep.

It goes without saying that Menew’s blanket was wet with tears.

(I will be more careful tomorrow…)

When the sun rose, Menew and the others wiped themselves and changed their underclothes, and then prepared breakfast.

By the time that Kara got up, there was a delicious smell.

“Good morning. Breakfast is ready.”

“Good morning. Did I keep you waiting long?”

Menew shook his head and smiled.

“I wonder how much progress we can make today.”

Menew took out a map while holding his food with one hand. Then they all surrounded it.

Kara pointed to where she thought they could reach, and they excitedly inspected the surrounding area.

There was a river and a village. They sounded like innocent children with how they talked.

Kara chuckled and Menew blushed as if embarrassed. Totto and Ralph laughed as well.

Like this, they enjoyed the journey for the next week.

It was usually the big child that would want to take detours, while the mother and grandfather had to stop him. And then the younger brother would console him.

Right now, there was a great stone wall in front of them.

A guard house was in front of the large gates, and there was a line of people waiting to enter.

They had arrived at the city of Ramstelis.
