Chapter 101 – Faith City Ramsteris
“Help Menew…?”
Ralph looked suspicious.
This was because, outside of drawing, there was no consistency to Menew’s actions. What he was doing or trying to do. He could not understand.
“Mr. Menew is not to blame for this. Allow me to explain.”
Seker said with a chuckle. Menew had not told the others that he had been reincarnated. That was all.
He started with how Menew had lived for 23 years in a different world, and how when he was reincarnated, the evil god Apep descended into this world. And how he was trying to destroy all worlds. Seker told them everything with great detail.
He even told them about how Menew must act as a representative of the gods and complete the book of death in order to defeat Apep.
“Originally, the book of death was a guide for going to the eternal garden of Aaru. However, what is wanted from Menew is the depiction of order… The creation of a book that depicts all the elements. Apep was born from chaos. Everything else was born from order. If Mr. Menew could contain all order in a volume, then he will be able to face the chaos.”
“Well, simple enough. In other words, it’s the rules of the world that define good and evil and the soul. It’s all easy to understand in this world. Everything is born from seven elements. Kanon over there is one shape that they can take.”
Mofusen stroked his beard as he muled over the words.
“Hmm. Hmm… In other words, what Menew is supposed to do is draw divine beasts of the various elements. Like Kanon?”
“Yes, old man. It’s good that you understand quickly.”
Horus said with a laugh.
However, Ralph and Totto found all of this quite difficult to swallow. Mofusen had more experience. But even he was surprised.
“We gods left everything to the Sky Tree…which is managing the order. I am able to appear here now, because of the great faith in this city, but that is all. If I left this city, then I would just be like anyone else. Aside from being immortal and unaging, that is.”
“It is true that this was our mistake as gods. We should not expect much from Menew, who is just a reincarnated human. However, we have no other choice. But we do not want him to bear the burden on his own. And after seeing you travel with him, I saw that you will be able to help with shouldering the burden.”
Horus said.
He seemed to be waiting for a reply from Ralph, Totto and Mofusen.
Menew looked rather uncomfortable, but kept his mouth shut and waited.
He had come here as requested, only to have the gods drop a bomb on his head.
“I…will help. Menew saved my life. So I don’t mind.”
“Me too. I would not be here if it were not for Mr. Menew.”
Said Ralph and Totto.
“Hoho. I have no objection either. In the first place, I came along because I thought that an old man like me might still be of use.”
Mofusen said with a hearty laugh.
“All of you…”
Menew was not the only one who was relieved by their answer. Horus and Seker were also relieved as they smiled.
“Thank you.”
“Aye, thank you. We will also do what we can to help.”
Said Seker and Horus.
Menew thought about this and then asked the question that had been on his mind.
“By the way, couldn’t you add to their statuses? Like you did with me?”
“No. …This is a world that is separate from our own. We cannot interfere at this point.”
Declared Horus. Menew’s eyebrows lowered.
“But they are all very strong people, so it is hardly necessary.”
“Close to a Hero, really. Humans are supposed to correct the chaos in the human world. And so Heroes are born. But perhaps now, they have reacted to Apep, and then gathered around Menew?”
Everyone looked at each other after hearing Seker and Horus’s words. They had never thought that their connection could be a result of fate.
“You are all like an antibody that was made by order.”
“The way you are, live and die. All of it is managed by order. It is not about will. Your will made the connection, so that order would make things happen that way.”
In other words, order was not first, but it helped them on their path.
This was not a very satisfying explanation, but they did not argue. After all, gods were not supposed to lie.
“Well, it’s a natural reaction. Apparently, humans do not like to hear about fate.”
Hurus chuckled. He clearly did not understand it.
But if their lives had all been managed by order, and their fates were decided…
Ralph losing everything, and the death of Totto’s mother. If those were things leading up to this…
That was hard to accept.
Ralph and Totto looked down.
“In other words, when humans want to do something, it is order that helps move things in that direction?”
Menew asked with a confused expression.
Ralph and Totto raised their heads.
“That’s how it is.”
“I see. That’s why Ralph has so many sword skills. Totto wanted to help his mother, and so he has so much magic energy. You two are amazing!”
Menew said. It was not clear whether he really understood or not.
“Mofusen is amazing. His imagination is so different. He used his power in such interesting ways.”
“There’s no need to complement an old man so much.”
Yes. In other words, there was a ‘desired path’ and if they had not wanted it, then they would not have become connected to Menew.
He had wanted to become a Hero, and continued to train. And so in answer to that, order had given Ralph sword skills.
Totto had wanted to help his mother, who worked hard to raise him. And so he acquired great magic energy.
The human wish came first. Order would answer and manage the world’s rules around it.
Ralph and Totto had misunderstood it at first, and so they now looked at each other and laughed.
“Being connected to this guy. It has a twisted sense of humor.”
However, it was the road to being a Hero.
“I feel like I’ve been pulled into something very big.”
However, Totto had gained his freedom by becoming involved with Menew.
“Uhh! Please. Help me! Alright!”
Menew bowed to them with a troubled expression.
“Of course we will. It will be for my own benefit as well.”
“I could never repay you enough, Mr. Menew.”
They nodded, and Menew smiled happily.
“Thank you!”
“Well, now that we are finished talking. Eat, eat!”
Said Horus.
Now that they thought about it, no one had touched the sweets.
“These are from Mr. Menew’s old world. They are very delicious.”
And so the four finally reached out and ate them. Aside from Menew, the others had notable reactions.
Sweet. My teeth are melting.
“So this is what you were eating… What a luxury.”
Ralph said as he tossed more into his mouth. Clearly, he had a sweet tooth.
“So much sugar… Well, it goes well with this tea.”
“Were you a really important person, Mr. Menew…?”
As Menew had it regularly with Seker, he had not noticed it. But it was true that there were not many sweet snacks in this world.
Seker must have done this on purpose then.
“If you come visit me again, then you can have as much as you like.”
“Aye, you should visit us once in a while.”
It was bait.
Menew glared at the two gods, but they ignored him and drank their tea gracefully.
Thanks for the chapter!
