Kamigami – 51 Part 3

While not being able to believe what was happening in front of him, he gripped his staff tightly.

The furious dragon was enveloped in red light as he shouted at Vengras and the knights.

“Why are you here! Chasing after kobolds!”

The knights were stunned by those words.

Should he just kill it? But he rejected the idea immediately.

That light around it could only be from a god. If this dragon was a friend of that kobold Hero, then he could likely block any of their attacks.

Besides, if he tried to silence the dragon too quickly, it might spread doubts among the men.

And so he made sure to sound as emotionless as possible.

“We are only exterminating monsters. You have no right to get in our way.”

“The nearby village! It’s being attacked by monsters! People are being killed in a sea of fire! And yet you’re ignoring it!”

“…There is a Hero in the village of Lindle. He can handle it.”
“He might be strong, but what can two people do alone!?”

Two, in other words, that kobold was not here.

In that case, it would make things easier. He held up his staff and looked at the other knights.

“I am sorry. We have no obligation to help them. Our orders are to exterminate the kobolds who are here.”

“…And…and you call yourself the Hero’s army!”

The small dragon screeched. The knight paused.

“I know! I know that you’ve been chasing after Sheto! You used the divine rule or something to sniff him out!”

“If you know that, then you must also know that we have no intention of withdrawing.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me! You bastard magician!”

The red light blazed like fire.

“Did you just learn magic in order to chase after dying, scattered kobolds!”

“…”

“And you, sir knight! Didn’t you pick up your sword in order to save people!? What happened to your oath!”

Vengras saw that the will to fight was dying amongst the men, and he saw that he had made a mistake.

Still, he kept his emotions to himself as he turned to the knight who was next to him.

“We will withdraw. Give the order to retreat.”

“…I understand. Everyone, retreat! Run back to the horses! Our destination has been changed to Lindle! Those who are on foot, maintain formation and head to the main road!”

The knight shouted, and then turned back and shrugged his shoulders.

“We are going against orders. I am sorry.”

“No. It’s fine… Sir Hero.”

‘What is it.’

Came the ever flat voice. Vengras tried to sound as apologetic as possible.

“There was an unexpected interference, which resulted in some damage. As you ordered, we will regroup with Ekbert’s unit.”

‘Ekbert’s unit is moving towards the north gate of Lindle. Go around the main road through the mountains so that you are not found by the enemy.’

“Understood.”

After receiving the order, he put away his staff. And then the knights and soldiers in the forest also lowered their weapons.

He then bowed to the dragon, who was still enraged.

“Wh…what do you mean to do!”
“We are leaving. You might as well run far away while you can.”

And then he turned away from the dragon who was looking at him doubtfully. The other knights also bowed once and started to walk in the opposite direction.

“Really. How horrible it feels.”

The knight chuckled next to him.

“To have a little dragon lecture us about knighthood.”

The magician sighed in agreement.

“I feel exactly the same way.”
