Paintbrush Summoner – 110

Chapter 110 – A Difficult Job

Being a Summoner was not a popular profession. It was hardly anyone’s first choice.

However, such people did exist. After all, if you were born with a lot of magic energy, then you had great potential as a Summoner.

It was the same with Necromancers.

Indeed, it was only those with average magic energy that were not suited to the job. But if you had a lot, it could be a rare weapon.

That being said, such rare powers were often desired by those who would use it for evil. After all, the true power could be used without restraint that way. It was very unfortunate.

Sangus and Argus were such people. Before they joined the Wind Clan, people would often look down on them just because of their occupation.

They were underestimated. And they would be considered lucky if that was all. However, sometimes, they would be treated like slaves from other party members. Or they would not be allowed to join at all.

Still, they had the ability and talent. Too much to think of switching occupations.

They had to figure out a way to make the most of what they had. And so they began to take more dangerous jobs. And like that, it did not take long for them to be welcomed by the Wind Clan.

They wore robes with tattered sleeves. It was like a silent vow.

That they would never return to that horrible situation again.

“Do it! Nayuta!”

In answer to Argus’s order, the giant kobold attacked Torum.

With the help of the scarabs, Menew and the others had reached the village where the elves were held.

And it was there that they faced Argus and Sangus, who were acting as guards.

While it was a reunion of sorts, it was Menew’s first time meeting argus.

Menew had swiftly summoned Torum in order to fight, but Argus’s monster was also ‘named.’

Regardless, the ensuing battle was vicious.

In the meantime, Sangus faced off with Ralph. He used various magic attacks to try and keep Ralph at bay.

The sounds of battle tore through the quietness of the night forest.

Currently, it was difficult to see who had the advantage. But that would likely not last long.

In the back, there was the elf prison, which was being protected by a barrier master. Menew was focused on reaching it.

(I already used the Medjed… What can I do that will leave an impression…)

He had made quite a scene the last time in order to send out a message. However, it had not been very effective.

In that case, he had to do more. Make them know that it was not worth attacking the elves.

Even while Menew faced the blank pace of his sketchbook, Torum and Nayuta continued to fight.

While Argus was too focused on it, Menew just sat down on the ground and scratched his head with the pen.

(Rediculous…!)

Argus felt a chill go down his spine. He knew he was talented enough to control such a monster. And yet this was difficult work.

The man sitting in front of him was clearly on a different level.

It made Argus so mad that he became determined to win this no matter what.

On the other hand, Menew hardly noticed Argus. Well, he did care about how things were going. It was just that the elves were his top priority.

“Alright. I’ll go with this then!”

He finally decided.

Menew started to draw something huge inside the sketchbook.

Just helping them was not enough. They had to be given a way to fight as well.

And since this was their symbol, it would surely be an effective power.

Menew raised the sketchbook up into the air.

“Medjed, summon!”

The book began to glow brightly.

Even Ralph and Sangus turned their heads to look.

Torum detected the danger and jumped back, but Nayuta would not move without Argus’s order, and so he was crushed under Medjed’s foot.

A giant Medjed now stood there, several times taller than the trees.

“Wh-what the…”

Argus was too stunned to do anything but mutter.

Nayuta had been crushed in an instant. And Argus did not have the strength to summon him again.

“You two. Would you consider surrendering now and releasing the elves?”

Menew asked. It was either that or annihilation.

The giant Medjed took one step forward.

Sangus and Argus looked at Menew dumbly.

“Brother…I…was wrong.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“Actual talent…is this kind of power…that can surpass any notions of unfairness or believability.”

Argus said weakly. Sangus raised an eyebrow.

“That is not talent. That is a monster.”

“I wish I were a monster.”

Argus then raised his hands. It meant they surrendered.

“We surrender. We will be leaving immediately, so do as you wish.”

Menew tilted his head.

“By the way, I’m giving this monster to the elves. Will you attack them again?”

“That is not our decision. But we’ll make a report.”

“Fine. Get out of here in one minute.”

“What’s your name?”

Argus did not expect an answer. Menew thought about it for a moment and answered.

“I’d like to stay anonymous.”

Argus gritted his teeth. He realized Menew was the person who had caused the incident in Muzeria.

In that case, they had no chance.

“I’ll remember that.”

After that, Argus, Sangus and the others of the Wind Clan scattered like spiders.

The giant Medjed then broke the prison that held the elves, and Menew was showered with praise. He told the elves about Mamnak, and sent them away, along with the giant.

“50 out of 100.”

Said Ralph. Menew laughed.

“No, it’s 20. It was a repeat. …But they sure were strong.”

Menew had been in a hurry.

Had he more time to work his imagination, he might have come up with a different solution. But Argus had been too strong for that.

“I almost felt sorry for those brothers…”

“I see that you are still too soft. But I like it.”

Sometimes, Menew had a very strange look in his eyes.

Like a child who destroys an ant nest.

But that had not happened this time. Much to Ralph’s relief.

“I helped the elves, but the mask broke, and they saw me. It really is a 20.”

“It’s fine, once in a while. And you can easily fight them off if they attack.”

It was unusual for Menew to seem depressed. And so Ralph did his best to encourage him. But he was also happy to see this human side.

And so he continued to console Menew as they made their way back. By the time they arrived at the carriage, it was already night time.
