The culprit was the familiar’s master
“The wolf’s master? But why would you attack a monster that you made your own familiar…”
“Apparently…because it was useless.”
The wolf had said that part very sadly.
It was now sleeping soundly on the floor while Liza’s petted it. The human called Deurgo had named the wolf Volgrau.
After calling Volgrau useless, he had attacked with magic.
“What a thing to do… I suppose it had wanted the wolf to do something…”
“But Volgrau doesn’t know what it was. Still it had been made to do all kinds of things for training…”
In fact, this Deurgo had often used weapons and magic against the wolf.
Thankfully, it had never been badly injured up until now… Regardless, Volgrau did not know the reason, and seemed to be sad about being useless.
“To be honest…it does not sound like this human regrets their actions at all. Besides, the wolf was not even being properly fed.”
“…It is no wonder it could not move quickly if it wasn’t being fed…”
In the end, all we knew was that the wolf had been attacked and abandoned. Apparently, Deuro had said something to that effect when leaving.
I was so angry that I clenched my fists tightly.
“Mr. Takum…”
“Ah, sorry.”
Claire gently took my hand in hers, and I was able to calm down a little.
“What should we do about this Deurgo person?”
“Tell the guards and search for him. Even if it was their familiar, it cannot go unnoticed. We must find him!”
“Certainly!”
Claire gave the order to Nicholas.
“Can you really be captured and punished for hurting your familiar?”
“It is a little difficult to say…”
Apparently, familiars were considered to be the same as their masters. In other words, if they caused trouble, it was the master’s responsibility.
And so if someone attacked the familiar, they would be attacking the master.
“So even if Deurgo is caught, since it was his….”
“All he did was hurt himself… He could make such an excuse.”
“I see…”
To me, it sounded like what he did was abuse of an animal.
If someone did that to their pet in Japan, they would be punished.
But then again, pets were also considered to be property.
“However…”
Claire muttered as she was thinking.
“What?”
“Since I have seen it. Perhaps there is something I can do. Besides, I have Sherry now. Normally, a monster familiar would only be able to communicate clearly with their master. But we have Leo, Liza and Sherry. And so we can prove what Volgrau has said.”
Claire was the daughter of a duke, and Leo was a Silver Fenrir… I did not know anything about this Deurgo, but it was clear who had the advantage in this.
“Kyau!”
“Me?”
“Yes, Liza. Benign able to speak to monsters is quite a weapon.”
Sherry nodded understandingly, while Liza looked a little puzzled.
I had not wanted her to hear it…but I was also glad that she was here…
