Silently, the Seer gazed down at what was happening in the mortal world.
He was avoiding giving any advice directly, but Vengras was performing his role as the Hero’s aide quite admirably.
He would be looked down upon if he descended and wielded his divine authority so openly. But a close retainer offering counsel instead was no different from the courtiers who served kings.
The problem lay with the demon general and kobold.
Under normal circumstances, they never would have agreed to such a meeting. They would have refused and driven the enemy off with the cavalry.
However, that was before they had saved.
“How infuriating…”
The enemy’s movements had become so varied and unpredictable.
Whenever they tried to crush them with their massive army, the demon general and the kobold would launch guerrilla strikes, causing the battle line to collapse.
If they instead fortified the main camp defenses, they would be bombarded by ranged magic attacks and enemy arrows. And that would result in tremendous casualties.
And now they knew that the Star Wolf was capable of invisibility, allowing for the kobold and assassins to infiltrate the camp. This had made it difficult to deploy generals, strategists and the giant beast subjugation unit to the front.
Of course, if they fought in earnest, there was little chance that they would lose.
No matter how powerful those two monsters might be, they were ultimately only individual fighters. All they had to do was surround them with overwhelming force, continually attack them with magic, and in the meantime wipe out the enemy’s main army.
Though, that would also result in catastrophic losses on their side.
And the more they cornered the enemy, the more effective Salia’s unused blessing would be.
Granting great magic to the kobold’s bow. That was all it would take. The monster army would have a ‘dragoon’, and it would tear this army to pieces.
‘Really. The grace and bounty of the gods is beyond measure, don’t you agree?’
Unaware of the Seer’s frustration, the demon general raised his cup cheerfully.
‘I have long thought it was proper to give thanks to whoever created this. Hero, I cannot thank you enough for granting us such a fine drink tonight.’
‘You…are welcome.’
“Fool.”
The toast had gone well enough, but everything after that had been an embarrassment. It was true that someone so young required some support, but the Seer now wished he had sent someone who was older and more skilled in conversation.
‘Now then, shall we finally discuss arrangements for tomorrow?’
‘First, there is one thing I would like to ask.’
The strategist remained calm as he questioned the general. Though he was ignorant of past defeats, he was able to immediately read the air of the battlefield and steer things to a more favorable situation. He was the only one here the Seer could rely on.
‘After being so thoroughly beaten during the day, you still come here with terms? It is surprising, even for shameless monsters. You should be grateful for the generosity that the Hero and our god have shown…’
‘Enough of that nonsense. Or have you forgotten there is a goddess behind us as well? And we are well aware that you are all uneasy with the current situation.’
‘On what grounds do you say…’
‘It’s because of this.’
The small dragon cut off the strategist as he appeared holding a smartphone.
‘Has he been hiding while using a divine vessel of invisibility!? How cowardly!’
‘You’re one to talk. After all the times your side has reset your actions?’
The dragon operated the device with practiced motions, and then footage began to play on the small screen.
‘Impossible… Our camp…is burning?’
“What is the meaning of this! When did he…!”
“I’m the one who recorded that.”
The Dragon God said as he grinned with unmistakable delight.
