Cave King – 232

Chapter 232 – Broken Promise?

We stayed the night in Shia’s village.
After leaving the room that the villagers prepared for us, we decided to head out to the place where Remlik asked to meet us.

Mappa was already awake, and had started to craft and repair tools for the villagers.
What was surprising was that there were people from other villages, in spite of it being so early in the morning.

As for the crafting and repairing of tools, Mappa accepted food in exchange. Or at least, that was the general idea. But sometimes he accepted nice stones as well.

“Mappa. You can take care of things here.”

Mappa raised his hand and waved at us.

I had already asked Number 15 and the Golems to make a report to Sheorl, in regard to the teleportation gate.
Depending in Shiel’s reply, we might open the gate.

“Alright, let’s go and meet Remlik then.”
“Yes!”
“What an exciting day!”

And so I headed towards Langs with Rienna and Fule.

As we walked down the road, Rienna said,

“Still, I wonder what he means by ‘interesting lake’?”
“If I know anything about that prince, he probably wants us to search for some treasure.”

Indeed, I doubted Remlik would take us to an ordinary lake.

“While it may not be like the mountain, we should prepare in case something happens again.”
“I hope it’s nothing like plummeting as the ground crumbles under our feet…”

And then Rienna asked,

“Yesterday, I spoke to you about it while writing the letter. It really is difficult…figuring out how we can tell Prince Remlik about Sheorl.”
“He likely won’t believe it if we suddenly tell him we are from a place across the ocean, and arrived through a teleportation gate… And there is the matter of the Sylphium.”

Sylphium had become allies of Sheorl.
And we had not asked Remlik how he feels about Sylphium’s people of the forest.

“…In any case, there is a need to talk a lot more, I think. If we can catch fish in the lake, perhaps we can eat it together for lunch.”
“That is a good idea. We should talk to Prince Remlik about all kinds of things today.”

I nodded at Rienna.

Shortly after, Langs came into view.

Just like last time, we were to meet under the dead tree outside of the city.

However, Remlik was not there.

Fule looked around. And then carefully circled the tree.

“He is not hiding anywhere… Maybe we are just a little early.”
“But it’s the same time as before.”
“And it’s not the wrong place… Maybe he slept in?”

Rienna said as she turned towards Langs.

“Well, perhaps he is just a little late. We should wait for him.”
“Yes. We are not in a hurry.”

And so we waited under the dead tree.

Surely it would just be a few minutes…

I thought. But then half an hour, and then one hour passed.

“He’s still not here…”

I muttered, and Fule yawned.

“Fuaaah… Maybe he really is still sleeping? Or he is stupid, and forgot this spot.”
“But this isn’t his first time… Something must have happened.”
“Perhaps he wanted to get the black iron and tools from yesterday…”
“He would not do that. The most reasonable explanation is…”

Rienna’s face darkened, and I also became anxious.

“He got caught up in some trouble inside of Langs…”
“It could be that he tried to help a demihuman. But he is also so strong.”
“If he was attacked while asleep… Or there is someone who is even stronger.”

As Rienna said, there were various possibilities.

Perhaps we were worrying too much.

However, this was right after he had humiliated Roda, the governor-general’s son.
He did not seem like the kind of person to back down easily. And he might want revenge.

“I’m worried… We will wait just a little longer. And if he doesn’t come, we will enter Langs.”
“Yes.”

Rienna and Fule nodded.

And so we waited. But Remlik did not show up.

In the end, in order to confirm that Remlik was safe, we stepped foot into Langs.
