Paintbrush Summoner – 63

Chapter 63 – A Feast before the Journey

Ralph and Totto left Menew at the inn, and went around telling their associates that they would be departing tomorrow.

It was good manners for Adventurers and travelers to speak to others after they had stayed in a place for a long time.

And if the residents were especially fond of them, they would sometimes hold a feast.

When Menew woke up later, he was taken down to the dining hall, which was filled with people.

“What is happening?”

Aside from the Hammer Inn family, there was Harnes and Reed, and people from the various bars and restaurants they had gone to, as well as the store owners, and alchemists that had helped Totto. Even the librarian and guild worker, Kazusa.

But Sety was not there. She must have left already.

She was a rootless tree, and was likely not interested in feasts anyway.

While Menew was happy to see all these people, he did feel sad that he had not been able to see Sety off. And so he swore that next time, he would throw a feast, even if she had to be dragged to it by force.

“Cheers!”

Once it began, someone took out stringed instruments, and people began to sing.

This was different from the party that Harnes had thrown before, but it was a fun time.

While Mia and Totto kicked the floor and danced, Totto was clearly bad at it. He was always tripping over his robes, which made everyone laugh.

Ralph was surrounded by female Adventurers. Why weren’t the recognition abstraction glasses working? It seemed he was still perceived as handsome. Menew decided that he would have to rectify that later.

After all…

“Really, Mr. Menew is always helping us…”

“Indeed, he has brought us so many high-quality materials. I hope that we can have a lasting relationship.”

“Mister, bring me some good materials if you find any!”

Harnes, Reed, the old man of the Hammer Inn. Menew was just surrounded by older men.

(Well, this is fun too? It is. But…)

He glanced towards the pretty women around Ralph, who had the nerve to look a little annoyed. As if he wasn’t the luckiest man there. Ralph then turned to Menew, as if asking for help, which Menew was happy to ignore.

Well, Totto or Kanon would help him if necessary. Women liked children and cute animals. But then again, it would probably just make Ralph even more popular with them.

Eventually, Totto and Ralph were also pulled onto the dance floor. Kanon and Stan hopped around to the music.

(Huh…?)

In spite of being the one to ignore him, Menew felt a little lonely. Ralph looked at him and snorted.

Menew wanted to join them now, but the old men were not going to let him go so easily. Not when they had drinks and endless stories to tell him.

And so Menew spent the night listening to their ramblings while watching the others dance and have fun.

The following day, they ate breakfast, which the innkeeper had prepared, and then departed while it was still early.

They had finished saying their goodbyes yesterday.

The innkeeper had also drunk a lot last night, but showed no signs of being hungover. She had even woken up early. Was she even human…?

“Well, let’s go then!”

After leaving the inn, they exited Muzeria from the north gate, and traveled along the road.

They walked on foot for three hours, and then rested in order to drink water. That was when Totto spoke.

“By the way, we haven’t decided where to go yet. Will it be Yark?”

“Now that I think about it, I fell asleep and left it to you. Ralph, we are going in the direction of the royal capital, but…”

Ralph considered it for a moment.

After all, Ralph used to work in the royal capital, Yark. It was where his family lived. After what he did in the first town, he had left his house and job. But he might not feel good about returning now.

“…I don’t mind. That’s what these glasses are for.”

It should at least save them from causing a scene.

And so Ralph agreed to go to Yark. They decided that they would stay there for some time in order to study and raise their rank.

However, it turned out that they had been too optimistic about how things would go…

Because the moment they stepped into the city, they were surrounded by soldiers.

“You are Sir Ralph, are you not? Your father has summoned you.”

Three soldiers in shining capes declared to them.
