Chapter 64 – Papa is too Strong?
Ralph showed his will to surrender.
And so Menew and Totto did the same.
While they were outnumbered, it didn’t really matter. Menew would have been able to suppress them.
However, that wasn’t what Ralph wanted. Menew as well. And Totto followed them.
They were inside of the town, and attracting attention. And the last thing Menew wanted to do was to attract even more attention.
It was something he had sensed a little before, but in this world, they were very strict when it came to your occupation. For better and worse.
Menew had too many abilities that strayed from his job. And when people found out about it, they became anxious and fearful.
There was nothing more scary than what you did not understand.
You were supposed to take the job you were suitable for, and train in it. Such beliefs were strongly rooted. While Menew did not relate to that, he knew that arguing against it was no way to fit into this world and build good relationships.
In short, Menew did not want to be the target of a ‘witch hunt.’
“Master, what should we do? I could take them down easily if you want.”
Mr. Wal whispered from Totto’s shoulder. However, Menew shook his head. Kanon was also growling.
Indeed, he could summon Mr. Wal right now. But that would not help his cause at all.
What people wanted from others was an appropriate amount of skills and abilities.
In a way, it had been like this in his previous world as well. And so when Menew was surrounded in public, he was going to surrender.
“We follow Ralph’s lead.”
“Aye, sir.”
And so Mr. Wal and Kanon stopped baring the teeth.
The soldiers then escorted them through the city and to a district filled with grand houses.
As Totto looked anxious, Menew smiled at him happily. He was going along with it because he knew they could escape whenever they wanted to.
They then passed through a gate to a mansion that was to the right of the royal castle.
“Where are we?”
“My house.”
(Seriously? His family is loaded!)
The garden was not that large, but the house was filled with luxurious furnishings of white, green and gold.
There were three floors, and the heavy, double doors were heavily decorated and several steps above the ground.
They went inside and walked straight, passing through two doors, before coming out into what seemed to be an audience chamber.
A man was sitting on a chair. He had a beard and golden hair that was combed back. He looked very strong for being middle-aged.
He was likely Ralph’s father, the person who had sent the soldiers to get them.
When they entered the room, the soldiers stopped.
“Leave us.”
The low voice ordered them.
The whole time, Ralph’s face was facing the floor.
Perhaps he had not wanted to meet his father while looking like a criminal.
In fact, he really had committed a crime and abandoned his family. So why had Ralph’s father brought him back like this?
(…I don’t understand his intention.)
As Menew looked at the man with a puzzled expression, their eyes met.
Suddenly, he felt immense pressure come over him.
Even if Menew was above him in abilities, when it came to the weight they carried, the layers of experience, there was a large gap.
Menew could not help but avert his eyes.
After all the soldiers had left, the audience hall was quiet.
Neither Ralph, Menew or Totto could say anything. A frightening pressure was pushing down on them.
And so it was the man who opened his mouth first.
“Hmph! Ralphy dear! How terrible of you to try to cut off ties with a single letter! Papa won’t allow it!”
Menew and Totto’s eyes widened.
“But I committed a crime. I am a disgrace to this house.”
“Everyone rushes to conclusions once in a while! But you mustn’t think of me as such a weak-minded man ever again!”
Only Ralph was unphased by the feminine way his father spoke.
Thanks for the chapter!
