Chapter 163 – Silkworms of the New Continent
After hearing about the sheep, I asked about the silkworms.
“Ije. Some of them felt like silk. Did you raise silkworms in your village?”
“No.”
“Hmm. But how did you make the cloth?”
“From wild silkworms.”
“Ohh. How interesting.”
Kelly’s eyes shined.
There were no wild silkworms on the old continent.
After all, they were creatures that could not live on their own.
There were some religions that believed them to be a gift from the gods.
“That is a surprise.”
“Mr. Theo. There are wild ones on the old continent as well.”
“Huh? There are?”
Well, I was not very knowledgeable about them.
“The wild ones are called kuwako and yamamayu.”
“I have never heard of them.”
“Kuwakos are very similar to silkworms.”
“Oh? And you can make silk with them?”
“It is more difficult, but you can.”
If they are similar, then maybe they were the originals, that were later changed to cultured silkworms.
“So, what about the yamamayu?”
“They are not as similar, but you can get silk from them as well.”
Perhaps they were the creature where Ije’s tribe got their silk from.
But this was a new continent.
So it may be completely different.
We would have to see them first.
“I…”
I sensed that Kelly was going to ask her, but I stopped her.
“Ije. We would like to know more about the sheep and silkworms later. But for now, we should focus on gathering clothes and shoes.”
“Okay!”
And so Ije ran back to the house.
“We can talk about sheep and silkworms later. We have a job to do.”
“I know…”
“And after the clothes and shoes are gathered, we will search for the sugar beat.”
“Ah, that’s right.”
That was the reason that Kelly had come, but she had forgotten.
“Still, wild silkworms and sheep. What do you think about that?”
“The people here were not interested in domesticating them.”
“And yet they were able to receive their blessings.”
“I suppose it was because they were just a small village…”
“Coexisting?”
“Yes. They were also friendly with Boaboa. They were certainly an amazing tribe.”
Kelly said as she looked around the village.
“There must have been a lot of people with good skills as well.”
Skills were from the gods.
So the gods must have loved Ije’s tribe.
After that, Ije worked hard to bring all of the clothes and shoes.
And Pii cleaned them, and I stored them in my magic bag.
“This is last.”
“Oh, thank you. That is quite a lot.”
“Yes, yes. We should be able to survive the winter.”
Kelly said as she hugged Ije and patted her on the head.
Ije wagged her tail slowly.
And then Pii cleaned the last of the clothes.
‘Play?’
“Auu…”
‘Thirsty’
“Oh, Kuro, Roro and Ruru have woken up.”
And so I took out some plates and filled them with water.
Then I took the cubs out of the basket and put the water in front of them.
“You must be thirsty.”
The cubs drank the water eagerly.
Though they were in the shade, it was still summer.
“Drink slowly.”
I said as I petted them on the head.
And then Ije called to Shiro, who was resting next to the basket.
“Shiro. Come over here. Guide to where sugar beat is.”
“Wuff!”
“Kyuo-kyuo.”
Hippolius followed Shiro happily.
Kelly went with Ije as well.
And then Ije went into her house.
While I could not see them, I could still hear them.
“Here. Pot for the sugar beats.”
“Wuff-wuff!”
“Kyuo!”
“Oh? So this is where they were stored.”
“Yes.”
“That is a very large pot.”
“Put sugar beats in this pot. Sugar was in this one.”
“Oh!”
I was a little curious about it as well.
“Sorry, Fio. Could you watch the cubs for a moment?”
“Okay!”
“Be good, Kuro, Roro and Ruru.”
They were still drinking the water thirstily.
And so I patted them on the head and ran to Ije’s house.
sugar beat -> sugar beet
