Paintbrush Summoner – 123

Chapter 123 – Set

Menew tried cutting some of the squirming legs.

When severed, the legs fell to the ground and turned into water before returning to the dragon.

After Menew started attacking, they began to rush towards him.

He jumped back and dodged them. The floor cracked from the impact, and Menew whistled with admiration. He had not thought they were this hard.

However, now that he thought about it, humans could die from water pressure.

“Alright, how about this then! Immobilization!”

Menew created numerous black magic circles that bound the octopus legs.

However, they easily escaped. They had all the freedom of movement that water did, and so it was difficult to stop them.

Now the tentacles lashed out at Menew from all directions. Ralph cut two of them down.

“Thanks.”

“No need to thank me. So…what should we do?”

Swords were useless. And binding them with magic was not working.

“What about freezing?”

He asked Ralph to focus on defense for a moment, and then made ice magic by mixing wind and water magic.

A blizzard blew out from the light blue magic circle, but upon seeing this, ‘he’ just whispered quietly.

“That won’t do…”

It was a man’s voice, and one that no one had ever heard. However, it had come from someone that they knew.

Mofusen and Totto looked towards Sety with surprise.

“Move back, old man.”

Sety moved out of the barrier and reached Menew and Ralph.

Everything from her air, to the way she walked was different from normal.

As expected, the ice magic was easily melted.

“Maybe I could just burn away the legs…?”

Menew muttered, and then the answer came.

“There is no need for that. The idea of freezing is not a bad one, beloved child of god.”
“Who is that?”

Menew turned around in surprise. But all he saw was Sety.

She suddenly had the air and expression of a young warrior.

“Sety…?”

“My name is Set. The god of the deserts and caravans. I am now manifesting with the body of the daughter who bears my name. I heard of the crisis with Apep, and I have to help you.”

Said Set, and then he raised one hand, causing several brown magic circles to appear behind the water dragon.

Great amounts of sand began to flow out of them. They absorbed the water and weighed down like shackles.

The sand continued to flow out. Eventually, the dragon’s movements were sealed completely.

“That should do it. Now, hurry up and make it yield.”
“Ah, uh, yes.”

Menew answered, his eyes wide at the overwhelming power of Set. He sheathed his blade and walked closer.

Held up his staff towards the sea slug’s head and chanted.

“I hereby designate the water dragon as a summoned beast of Menew!”

But nothing happened. He looked at the water dragon, but it was still squirming as if in pain.

“Give it a name.”

Set suggested.
Menew recalled that he had named Mr. Wal as well, and so he tried to think of a name.

(Water…sea…. But that’s too simple. Lake…spring…!)

“I hereby designate water dragon Quelle as my summoned beast!”

Between the staff and Quelle, particles of light began to shine brightly.

After the lights settled inside of the dragon, a rainbow appeared up above.

“Kuee…”

Quelle now lay limply on the ground.

Still, it raised its head towards Menew and answered.

“Summoner Menew shall be my master, and I swear to go to the ends of the world in answer to him. As long as there is a current of water, I will cross ten thousand leagues.”

After this was done, Set returned the sand into the magic circles. It was a very useful spell.

“Menew… And Lord Set…I’m sorry for causing so much trouble.”

Quelle had regained his strength, and now apologized to them.

“Lord Caprichio. I am fine now. Please return to your old form…”

Quelle said to the air, and then he too turned into light.

And from there, butterfly wings that glowed blue appeared.

The giant butterfly wings spread out, and down below, a semi-transparent, beautiful person emerged. It looked like a dryad, but it had flowing water instead of hair. And then Caprichio separated from Quelle.

“Ah, thank goodness. Quelle… I see you are back to normal. I’m so glad…”

The beautiful woman cried tears of joy against the sea slug.

Menew became excited at the prospect of drawing them.

However, there was another problem to deal with right now.

And so he turned away from them and towards Sety…or Set.

“Could you explain to me what is happening?”

Menew thought he had to know this, or there would be no point in drawing Caprichio.
