Paintbrush Summoner – 124

Chapter 124 – Sety

“It’s a long story. Do I have to tell it?”

Set said with an annoyed voice. Of course, it was necessary to hear the story.

“…Fine. I’ll tell you. First, this woman…it starts with the birth of my daughter, Sety.”

As the god of travelers, Set had a shrine in the desert. But the shrine had turned into a dungeon, which was surrounded by an oasis.

A place that is both an oasis and shrine would be a place travelers would visit to worship. There, Set’s faith took root, allowing him to wield some power there. For instance, appearing in this world in the shape of a jackal.

One day, a certain caravan came to the oasis. Perhaps they thought it would be too harsh to carry a baby while crossing the desert. As I heard that they then abandoned the baby in the oasis.

While in the form of a jackal, Set found the baby. At that time, the sun had just started to set.

The difference in temperatures could be extreme in the desert. It would be boiling hot during the day, while at night, it was cold enough to freeze you to the bone.

And so he frantically took the baby into the shrine.

Obviously, Set did not know the baby’s name. Perhaps there never was a name. There had not been any note left.

At night, the baby would die.

It might survive if someone discovered it, but the chances would have been very low.

And so with the crying baby in front of him, Set wondered.

He was the guardian of travelers. But was a baby a traveler? He had no duty to raise it, but no reason to abandon it either.

But as the small hand reached out, as if desperate to live, and he saw it cry for milk. It indeed looked like a traveler who was on the journey of life. And so he decided to raise it.

If he was going to raise it, then it needed a name. And he needed help as well.

Well, the dungeon monsters could help him. The important thing now was to think of a name.

That was when he thought of another name for Set. It was Sety. The name would also provide blessings and protection.

Like this, Sety was raised by Set and the monsters in the dungeon. And when she grew to be a little older, she was left in the town that was the closest to the desert.

Sety was the one who walked the path of life. Set had just done the bare minimum to help.

Still, Set had watched over her.

At first, she had been an orphan without words or human knowledge. But later, she was a child who could speak like the others.

After she lived at the orphanage, she quickly learned how to live as a human.

He thought that she would forget about him soon. But things didn’t go that way. Perhaps it was because of the blessing.

By the time she was an adult, she had learned how to fight. And so she went out on a journey to find the dungeon where she had been raised.

Her journey went well. She knew her power, and did not act recklessly, and slowly grew stronger.

Around that time, Menew was reincarnated into this world, and then the Apep problem occurred.

Thankfully, Sety had been close to Menew and the others. And so Set had come down to watch over them.

“Normally, you have the blessings of Seker and Horus. If something were to happen, it would be in the dungeon…the ancient dungeon. Thankfully, Sety was traveling around dungeons. I was always on the other side of her consciousness, and did not come out. If I did come out, Sety would be on the other side of me, and not come out. She won’t remember this conversation either. Menew, I have a duty to protect you. But Sety does not. Please continue to talk to her normally.”

He said.

In other words, Sety was a vessel that allowed Set to be in this world.

“Fine. I understand why you are here and why you helped us. I just need to keep it a secret from Sety, right?”
“Exactly. While I feel bad for my daughter, I will need to use her for a little longer. Her journey is her own journey, and I don’t want to bother her. Even if I change the path a little…”
“Like going into the dungeon with us?”

“Yes. But that is all. If nothing happens, then I won’t come out. However, I will always be watching you, Menew.”

Set said, and then he returned Sety her body.

“Hmm…? Huh? Aren’t we under attack?”

Sety looked around with confusion.

“You got hit by one of the legs and lost consciousness. Though, you are unharmed thanks to Mofusen’s barrier. Everything is fine now, the dungeon should return to normal.”

While she seemed satisfied by Menew’s explanation, she still looked a little puzzled. Perhaps she had questions.

But she did not say anything more. And so Menew turned back to the giant water spirit.

“Now, Caprichio. Can I draw you?”
“Yes, of course. Please add me to your pages, brother.”

Drawing a water spirit meant drawing water.

Menew picked up the brush with excitement.

While there was a little trouble, this was what he was good at.

“Alright, why don’t the rest of you drink some tea. I’m going to draw!”

He said happily while taking out the tea set. He then sat down and faced Caprichio and the others.
