My Beloved Dog is the Strongest in Another World – 1173

For some reason, there was going to be a fight

While Sherry was still young and inexperienced, she was very strong compared to humans.

If she fought seriously, she could probably beat me, Phillip and the other trained guards.

Especially if she was using magic.

So it seemed ridiculous that Deurgo thought he could make Sherry his familiar.

“Well, maybe I should make it obey then? It is only a cub, after all. It will likely be easier than when I fought Volgrau. A very easy fight indeed.

“Gurrr… Kyu! Kyau!”

He was really getting carried away.

However, Sherry barked back, as if she was ready to fight as well.

Only, that would just result in his death! And somehow, I doubted Leo or even Claire could calm her down now…

“Hah… It cannot be helped. After all, we cannot allow Sherry to fight.”
“Wh-what do you mean?”

“Mr. Takumi. I know it is troublesome… I am sorry.”
“Huh…?”

Sebastian sighed and apologized to me.

But what did he mean?

Sebastian then explained it to Deurgo.

And while I was surprised by what he said, Deurgo readily agreed…

Hah… How did this happen?

I was now in a large room within the guard house. It was about ten meters across on both sides, and was usually used for training indoors.

The walls were made of thick wooden panels, and the floor was hardened soil.

This is where they trained when it rained.

“Here are the wooden swords. Are you alright?”
“Well, I will do what I can. I’m pretty sure that Deurgo is all talk, and not actually strong… So I should be able to manage.”
“Very well. But if things get dangerous, I will put a stop to it.”
“Thank you.”

I smiled and accepted the wooden sword from the guard.

On the other side of the room, several guards stood by as they carefully unbound Deurgo. And then he was also given a wooden sword.

The reason that this was happening was because of Sebastian’s suggestion.

We would fight a duel in order to resolve the problem.

If I won, Volgrau’s contract would be canceled.

If Deurgo won, he would gain the right to make a contract with Sherry.

And since Deurgo believed himself to be strong, he smiled and agreed. He felt as if Sherry was as good as his.

Of course, even if he did win, it wasn’t as if he would actually get her.

He could try, but Sherry had every right to refuse.

As for Claire and Tilura, they were watching from the entrance. Ah…Sebastian was talking to Claire.

I suppose he was telling her why I was the one fighting. I wanted to hear that myself.

“Both of you, move into position.”
“Yes.”
“…”

We faced each other in front of the guard who acted as judge.

Deurgo glared at me silently. I wondered what he was thinking.

“Now, the rules. You will make your opponent drop his sword, land a valid hit, or make him unable to move with your sword pressed against him. Also, you will lose if you step outside of the line right here. That is all.”
“Understood.”
“…”

They were basic rules.

You were forbidden from attacking someone who could no longer move.

Also, while we had wooden swords, you were also allowed to strike with your hands… In other words, you had a lot of freedom, as long as you didn’t go too far.

The guards would watch and warn us if it was getting out of hand.

“Get ready!”

I held up the sword, just as I did during training.

Unlike the katana I used when training with Mr. Ekenhart, this was in the shape of a short sword. And so I held it diagonally with both hands near the right side of my waist, and spread my feet apart.

Or…was I supposed to hold it straight in front of me? And then point the tip at my opponent? Well, I did not know what Deurgo would do, so it was best to be able to both attack and defend.

As for Deurgo, he extended his left hand towards me, while using his right hand to hold the wooden sword above his head.
