Cokka and Trice went wild
“…Yes, I saw it too. There is no doubt about it. It was as if it was hit by something…”
When I asked her, Ms. Jane nodded and said that it had looked unnatural to her as well.
So it was true… Once I had doubts about it, it made it so much more noticeable.
“Just to confirm…there is nothing between your hands, Ms. Gelda? I mean…obviously, I cannot see anything, but…”
“Huh…?”
“But it really did seem like there was something in between…”
There really was nothing between her hands. Ms. Jane was deep in thought with a serious expression. Ms. Gelda just looked confused.
“Now that I think about it, there have been other unnatural things happening…”
Similar things had happened before.
When she had turned over the bowl of meat. It was true that her hand had knocked the bowl over, but it was almost as if her hand had been guided towards the edge.
Even though her hand had been directed to the center.
Aside from that, when she was shaping the patties, it never looked like she was applying that much pressure with her hands. At least not enough to crush them completely.
But perhaps my doubts were starting to turn into delusion.
Still, it all seemed a little too strange.
“That being said, I don’t think it is Ms. Gelda’s own will… What does that mean?”
“I do not sense any magic… Could it be…something similar to you, Mr. Takumi? And Lady Tilura?”
“Uh, I don’t know about that… An ability that makes you fail at cooking and other things…”
I felt sorry for leaving Ms. Gelda in a confused state. But Ms. Jane and I began to talk about what it might be.
Like her, I did not sense any magic in it.
And I seriously doubted it was the Gift.
“Chi-chi. Chi-chi!”
“Cokka? You shouldn’t get on top of the table…”
As I was thinking, Cokka suddenly flapped its wings and rose up onto the table.
Did it want some attention? Or was it hungry again?
“Chi-chi! Chi-chi! Chi-chi…”
“Wha-what are you doing?”
“It is pecking at nothing…”
As if to object to my warning, it shook its body once and then began to peck at the air near Ms. Gelda.
“Chi! Chi-chi!”
“Ouch… Now it’s Trice. What is going on…?”
Trice was now pecking at my feet and trying to get my attention.
“Chi! Chi…!”
“Hmm… I don’t understand. Hey, Liza! Come over here!”
While I could tell they wanted to tell me something through their gestures, I did not know what it was.
And so it was time to summon an interpreter!
As I didn’t want Tilura to use her Gift, I called Liza.
“What is it, papa?”
“Uh, it seems like Trice is trying to tell me something. But I don’t understand.”
“Okay. I’ll ask.”
“Chi! Chi…!”
“Hmm… I see!”
“Liza, what did Trice say?”
Liza nodded and listened to Trice.
To me it just sounded like a lot of squeaking. It was amazing she could understand that…
“Um… Cokka is saying ‘Show yourself already.’ That’s why it’s doing that.”
“Show yourself…?”
“Trice says there is something over there?”
In other words, it was pecking at something that was close to Ms. Gelda.
Something we couldn’t see… Now that I think about it, when Sherry was sneaking into the kitchen, Sebastian had something about an invisible monster…
Regardless, Cokka and Trice seemed angry. But they were not frantic or scared. So it was surely not something dangerous…
