The difference between wolf and fenrir was too big
“I was holding back the wolves. Not attacking them, but just keeping them bound with a little magic.”
Mr. Euto twirled his finger as if it was the easiest thing.
“…I suppose it would be easy for you. And what happened to the wolves after that…?”
Even if it was the bandits who commanded it, the wolves had still attacked people too… Which made me think of things rather unpleasant. In Japan, I would sometimes hear stories on the news of wild animals coming down from the mountains and attacking people, and they would be put down.
“Thanks to Lugretta, the forced familiar contracts were broken. And so after promising to never attack humans again, they ran back into the forest.”
Well…if the humans died…then the contracts would be nullified.
“It was quite a sight after the battle. You wouldn’t want children to see it. But well…the wolves left with their tails between their legs. Thankfully.”
“…What happened…?”
“You probably don’t want to know, Claire.”
Aftermath of Ms. Lugretta’s battle seemed quite brutal. I felt bad for the guards who were on their way to the scene.
I suppose it worked as a good threat for the wolves.
They were not like orcs that acted purely based on instinct. They were monsters of intelligence and were even more sensitive than humans. So those wolves were probably still shivering with fear.
While I felt a little bad for them, it was unlikely that they would go close to any humans now. And it was probably for the best.
If they happened to come close again and attacked, they would be seen as dangerous monsters and would be hunted down…
I didn’t want that to happen, especially after seeing Volgrau.
“Now that I think about it, there was something I was wondering about…”
“What is it, Takumi?”
“Well, no… Umm… With enough training, can a wolf win against a fenrir? After all, Volgrau, the wolf, was really scared when he first saw Leo and the fenrirs.”
“Ah, definitely not. The differences between them are too great. Both in terms of their physical abilities and magic. You know the expression about the moon and the turtle?”
“Uh, I do, but…”
That seemed wrong.
The moon and turtle was about beauty and ugliness. Not strength… Well, I suppose I understood what he meant.
As they did not know the saying, both Lugretta and Claire looked puzzled.
“Regardless, you should just consider it impossible. No matter how much they train.”
“I see…”
It was no wonder Volgrau was scared then.
I suppose it was like the difference between fenrirs and Silver Fenrirs.
“Though, just like humans, they can become much stronger if they do train.”
“But if they work together, they might be able to win?”
“Hmm…a human and a familiar wolf together might have a chance. If there were enough of them. Regardless, a lot more people might have the same idea after seeing you and Leo and the other fenrirs now. So we will have to be careful.”
“Indeed…”
“It’s probably a good thing you’re going to Range Village. As fewer people will see you there.”
Range Village was an idyllic, pastoral place with few visitors. And I could trust the people there.
“Though…and I know that I’m the one who brought it up…but I don’t think you need to worry about it too much. After all, things were resolved before they got too out of hand. We just need to keep an eye open for similar groups that might appear. But such things have always happened, even before you and Leo came here.”
