I heard a little about Ms. Lugretta’s journey
“If your herbs were to spread across the duke’s territory, no, the whole country, then you would be helping a lot of people. And rake in great profits at the same time.”
“While I do care about profits…now that I am hiring people, I do not think they will be that great…”
I was not so ambitious as to think that I could heal every illness ever.
I just wanted to help some people who were sick or injured.
In the first place, it was just a power I happened to be given when I came here. It wasn’t something that I originally had… I used it to live and manage the fields. But I had no intention of using it to become rich.
If anything, I hated the idea of becoming too burdened with work and the pursuit of profits, that I had less time to spend with Leo, Liz and Claire. That would be too similar to my old job.
My wish was not to have money, but to be involved with something that helped people a little, and live an easy and peaceful life.
Of course, I did know that I would be a little busy when we reached Range Village…
“So you have no greed. His Excellency would have immediately planned to make money and live in luxury!”
“Well…he does seem like he would say that.”
That being said, he would not use it for anything bad. It was a legitimate way to make money, which he would then spend as he wished… I think.
Still, I would have thought that he was rich enough already.
He used to be the most powerful person in the country, after all.
But I suppose the country’s money was not his money.
Also, he was currently traveling freely, and probably spending quite a lot of money already.
“If I am not careful, he will start drinking away the money meant for the next day’s room and meals. And he will start inviting others to join him… And even though he has plenty of money back at his house, we sometimes have to earn money on the spot…”
“Ahaha…that sounds tough…”
I could only laugh dryly while listening to Ms. Lugretta’s complaints.
They did not have banks here, and so you were limited in terms of how much money you would have during your journey.
So if one wasn’t careful, you would run out quickly.
The more I heard from Ms. Lugretta, the more I wondered…why him? But I suppose that everyone had their own tastes.
Also, his heavy drinking was likely related to the Gift…
“But, how did you earn the money while on the road? I doubt there are many places that would suddenly hire you…”
There were some places that hired you for a day for manual labor…
But while Mr. Euto could use magic, he did not seem very physically strong. So it seemed like it would be difficult for him to raise any money while traveling.
“Well, in large towns, you can earn money by hunting monsters. And even in smaller towns, they will pay a little for orcs or any edible monsters. You can even sell them at the market after the proper procedures.”
“I see…”
Previously, we had brought monsters that the fenrirs hunted to Ractos. And the guards had bought them from us.
I had heard that there was hardly anyone who hunted for a living, but considering Mr. Euto’s magic and his Gift, it was probably not hard to earn a decent amount of money.
It made the towns safer and brought them food. So it was a good thing.
“He prefers to hunt the most dangerous monsters… Ones that would usually take a whole army to kill. And so there have been many times where I thought we would die…”
“Have you ever seen fenrirs during these hunts…?”
“Of course, several times. Though, there are not as many fenrirs in other places as the forest to the west… But you see small packs here and there. Many people see them as ferocious monsters, but they are normally quite peaceful. And so as long as humans do not go too deep into dangerous places, they generally do not encounter them.”
When I first asked about fenrirs, Sebastian had also said that they were vicious beasts.
But once I started to interact with them more, I saw that while they did fight when they had to, they were generally very calm.
They even enjoyed playing with the children.
