Chapter 35 – Dried Meat is not for Children
Menew carried most necessary items for camping outdoors inside of his pouch.
A tent, blanket, coal, cooking grill, tongs and cups.
Totto looked puzzled at first, but then his eyes shone when Menew told him that it was space manipulation magic. They seemed to have similar interests, and would get along well.
However, Menew had forgotten about food completely.
(Damn it… While dried meat might be fine for me and Ralph, it is no good for a child. Especially not twice in a row.)
According to his status, Totto was fourteen.
And while he was a little small for his age, he was still growing.
So as long as they were looking after him, they had to ensure that he was eating properly.
While Ralph and Totto prepared the fire, Menew looked through his pouch but could not find anything
(I suppose I will just have to draw…!)
However, after taking out the sketchbook, Menew paused with his paintbrush.
This was very bad.
(I barely ate myself, and had little interest in food… And so I can’t think of anything delicious now…)
It was an emergency.
But he had eaten delicious food since coming to this world. At the Harnes mansion and tavern. Even yesterday’s dinner and today’s breakfast.
However, Menew had been a man who subsisted on glucose tablets and water in his past life.
Even if he had enjoyed the meals in this world, he didn’t actually think about them or remember the taste that well.
Imagination was the key. And so if he wasn’t careful, he might end up making food that had no taste.
(What is this tasteless sludge…!? I would rather have dried meat!)
When it came to something that he remembered the taste clearly, the only thing was the rice balls from the convenience store. However, he did not want to make something like that right now. Not at all.
And so he calmly thought back on his childhood.
The only thing that he could remember was being left alone in the house and eating bread… Even back then, he did little but draw…
And so he was in trouble again.
(Now that I think about it…)
He felt that there had been a time when he drew what he wanted to eat.
“Ome…lette…rice…”
His mother would make it occasionally. Chicken rice with egg and ketchup on top.
(Ah…I’m starting to remember now.)
He closed his eyes and recollected those memories.
The joy of eating. Those fun times. And also, the ‘taste.’
(As for delicious snacks… Ah, the pancakes we made together…)
Menew opened his eyes and began to move his paintbrush.
They had been so hot that they nearly burned his tongue. He would sprinkle sugar on top, and they would be so fluffy and delicious.
(It was quite hard to draw food.)
When it came to food in anime, he would draw by looking at photos.
Even though he had just remembered such things now, Menew felt that he was now drawing food that looked more delicious than what he had drawn before.
“Mr. Menew, the tea is ready.”
Said Totto, who had finished preparing the fire with Ralph.
“Ah, good. I’m finished as well.”
He had almost cried, but Menew now turned to them and smiled.
A round snack that was wrapped in paper. It was freshly fried. He now handed it to Totto.
“Wha-what is this!”
“A donut!”
He had some for Ralph as well.
…After that, Ralph initially objected to eating it. He did not know what it was, after all. However, after seeing Totto eat it, he finally tried it and it became one of his favorite foods.
And then Menew’s level rose to 4.
That is just a donut right, it isn’t some omelette infused pancake donut?
He was using those memories to reawaken his sense of taste, but what you wrote is really funny.
