Chapter 228 – We Got Through!

We had come out into what seemed like a storage area in the mines.

And then creatures that had been following us, as the ones that had been waiting in the storage area, all came towards us at once.

It was hard to believe that things had been so peaceful and quiet a second ago. The sounds of rustling could be heard from every direction.

Eventually, we could see them.

The giant, centipede-like creatures.
Their mandibles were large enough to pick up multiple humans at once.

“All of you, this way!”

Remlik unsheathed his sword and called for us to run towards the center of the chamber.

“No, Remlik. We can protect ourselves.”

I said as I created a wall of magic energy around us.

“…I’m sorry!”

Remlik said as he charged into the horde of monsters.

Fule muttered with dissatisfaction.

“Hey! I thought you wanted to protect us!?”
“It shows how much he trusts us.”

Said Rienna. I hoped that she was right.

However, it was possible that Remlik wanted to test how capable we were.

Also, as I was afraid of the cave collapsing, I could not use any magic that was too powerful.

Once I saw that Remlik was fighting them, we also started to unleash our magic.

Simple magic, that was mostly fire-based.

Rienna and Fule were also holding back.

While these monsters looked ferocious, they were nothing compared to some of the monsters that would come to Sheorl.

Remlik was also defeating the centipedes without stopping.

However, there were too many of them…

If this continued, we would be surrounded and squashed

And so we started more rapidly. But it was still not fast enough.

And if I did any more than this, he would surely notice.

But then again, Remlik looked like he was barely keeping up as well.

Or…perhaps he was just pretending, in order to push us into showing our true power…

As I wondered what to do, Fule suddenly pulled out a shining stone.

It was not special.
Just an ordinary large diamond from Sheorl.

“Ah, I have no choice! I will use this then!”

Fule said as she enveloped the diamond in light.

In other words…she was pretending that it was her trump card. A special item that allowed her to temporarily use more powerful magic.

That was smart.

I didn’t know if Remlik would buy it, but in any case, we had no choice but to use more powerful magic at this point.

And so we could blast them all at once.

Like that, I unleashed magic that was several times more powerful than my previous attacks.
Of course, even this was only half as strong as what I could usually do.

But it was more than enough.

The fire magic spread to the back of the chamber, turning dozens of the monsters into ashes.

Fule and Rienna were also using more powerful magic now, killing numerous centipedes.

It was the kind of powerful magic you would use to get out of a desperate situation…I think.

In any case, the number of enemies went down rapidly.

The ones that remained seemed to realize that they had no chance, and they began to scatter in every direction.

Remlik had also just finished killing the last one that attacked him.

“Phew…”

He wiped the sweat from his forehead.

It had not looked like he was holding back, but…

We rushed towards him.

“Remlik! Are you alright!?”
“Yes. I am fine. What about you?”
“None of us were hurt.”
“That is good to hear… Uh, sorry about earlier.”

As Remlik apologized, Fule took out the diamond, which was no longer glowing, and sighed sadly.

“Ahh… This cost me a fortune, and I had to use it in a place like this. Prince, you shall pay the price for this.”
“Fule, stop that. It was purchased as insurance for times like these.”

Rienna said, adding to the idea that the diamond was something special.

Upon hearing this, Remlik did not look suspicious, and was even more sorry.

I answered to Remlik.

Remlik said with a deep bow.
It really did not look like he was acting.

“…A collapse.”
“I’m sorry…”

Just as Remlik said this, a great crack shot through the ground.

Fule shouted.

“Apologies won’t make up for this!!”

There was no time to escape. And so along with the broken floor, we plummeted into the dark depths.
